EVENT PREVIEW | PROFILES 2018

colour forecast models and selecting design solutions for building products and exterior décor.

Speakers at the event include (left to right): George Walrath, Senior Scientist at CertainTeed; Brendan Owens, from the US Green Building Council; and Cristian Bracan, of The Vinyl Institute

Boosting profile performance The third session is about material developments for increased profile performance. Robert Young, Principal Scientist at Eastman Chemical Company will talk about new developments in copolyesters for increasing the heat distortion temperature of rigid PVC. Next, BASF’s Application Development Engineer, William McMaster explains how to increase the stiffness of PVC window profiles with co-extruded PBT. The advances in value-added coatings for architectural products will then be explored with a joint paper from Arkema Inc.’s, Dr. An Du, Senior Technical Service Engineer and Kalcor Coatings’ Skip Gregorevich, Technical Sales Representative.

Improving performance Marc Schweiger, Exterior Product Manager USA and Canada from Renolit SE will open this session looking at window lamination trends in aesthetics, performance and repair. An insight will then be given into how design meets function focusing on the secrets behind how building elements must look and stay cool, by Marco Patermann, Manufac- turers’ Representative skai Exterior for North- and Latin America, Benecke-Hornschuch Surface Group (part of Continental), Germany, US. Closing this ses- sion is George Gehringer, Creative Director / Partner at Metaphor LLC talks about trend and

Measuring and understanding fusion Opening day two, George A. Walrath, Senior Scientist with CertainTeed will present the determi- nation of the degree of fusion using differential scanning, while Randy J Brown, Research Leader at Sekisui SPI will relate torque rheometer fusion data to the processability of rigid PVC.

Optimising design and processing This session will look at optimising design and processing options for profiles. President of Plastic Flow LLC, Dr. Mahesh Gupta investigates the simulation of extrudate distortion, including the effects of non-uniform exit velocity and cooling shrinkage. Robert Bessemar, Senior Technical Advisor, Downstream Extrusion at The Conair Group, Inc. will then examine the how and why of closed loop temperature control of profile dry calibration tooling. Dr. J. Miguel Nóbrega, Associate Professor at the University of Minho will offer an insight into a computational modelling framework to support the design of extruded profile forming tools. Closing this session is Matthew Fenneman, VP of Sales and Marketing at Engineered Profiles, LLC on applying lean manufacturing principles to profile production.

Ensuring long-term performance The final session explores how to get the most out of your profile regarding physical material proper- ties and their subsequent testing.Matthew McGreer, Product Manager at Atlas Material Testing Technology LLC then looks at the innova- tions in artificial weathering testing and how to match the simulation to the outdoor environment. Bill Tobin, Senior Technical Marketing Specialist of Weathering and Corrosion at Q-Lab Corporation explores the different fluorescent UV weathering tests used for decision making.

About Profiles 2018

Taking place in Pittsburgh, PA, US, on 7-8 June 2018, AMI’s Profiles conference is the learning and networking event for North American producers of plastic profiles for window, siding, decking and fencing applications. Now in its 18th

year, the event delivers expert market and technical presentations Sponsored by: Media supporter:
