DowDuPont merger complete; plastics portfolios adjusted
Dow Chemical and DuPont completed their merger to form DowDuPont at the end of August, 21 months after the plan was originally announced. The new combined
DowDuPont entity is a holding company with total sales of around $73bn. It is comprised of three business divisions – Agriculture, Materials Science and Speciality Products – that will ultimately be separated out from each other. A time frame of around 18 months has been set for this. The Materials Science
division, named Dow and based in Midland in the US, initially comprised the Performance Materials operating segment of DuPont and the Perfor- mance Plastics, Performance Materials & Chemicals and Infrastructure Solutions

businesses of the former Dow as well as two parts of its Consumer Solutions business: Consumer Care and Dow Automotive Systems. Following the completion
of the merger, however, the company announced that a number of businesses with total sales of around $8bn – including DuPont Perfor- mance Polymers , Multibase
and parts of the Dow Corning silicones unit – will be moved out of the Materials Science unit to the Specialty Products division. DuPont Performance Polymers includes PA and POM engineering plastics production; Multibase makes technical com- pounds, masterbatches and TPEs.

Russia’s Polyplastic ups capacity at Engels
Russian compounder R&P Polyplastic has upgraded one of the 13 lines at its production unit at Engels in Russia’s Saratov region, lifting site capacity by 2,000 tonnes a year to 72,000 tonnes. The company said it has invested around €300,000 in the
refurbishment of the 71mm 36 LD Icma San Giorgio twin screw compounder. The line, which is equipped with a Brabender dosing system and Primo pelletiser, will be used to produce PP and PA-based compounds with glass fibre reinforcement and talc fillers. R&P Polyplastic operates a total of 26 compounding extruders
across three sites in Russia and claims a total production capacity of 112,000 tonnes. The facility at Engels is its largest in volume terms. The company, which marked its 26th
