Tosaf adds new FR for PE foams


Israel-headquartered Tosaf has introduced a new halogen-free flame retardant additive for use in crosslinked and non- crosslinked PE foams that it claims meets demanding fire standards in areas such as construction and automotive at low concen- trations. The FR9185PE product uses a phosphorus-based flame retardant system that the company says func- tions at levels of 10-15%, compared with the 30-60% it claims is required with typical halogen-free alternatives. The company says it also disperses well in the foam and does not impact on nucleation of the foam cells. The additive is being


produced at the company’s new production unit in Israel, which has a total capacity of 30,000 tonnes/ yr and includes a laboratory with extensive fire standard testing capabilities, including cone calorimetry. �www.tosaf.com

UK furniture firm Orangebox to use MAIP/UBQ compound


UK-based office furniture company Orangebox is to use a new PP compound developed by Italy’s MAIP using UBQ Materials’ bio-waste derived filler to form the seat pan of its newly introduced ‘Do Better’ chair. The UBQ material will be used in place of talc mineral filler in the part, around 20% by weight. The PP used in the formulation has a recycled content of 75%, with 90% of that from post-consumer waste. The Do Better chair is intended to be a more sustainable version of the company’s best-sellilng ‘Do’

Venator enters Chapter 11 in US TiO2 and specialty chemicals
