haematology analysis. The treatments were well tolerat- ed with only a mild transient swelling observed in two piglets in the Forceris® group. The piglets treated with Forceris® had higher Hb, Hct, MCV and Hb concentrations, as well as significantly higher plasma iron and transferrin saturations and a low- er TIBC than those treated with iron dextran based prod- uct. Moreover, after treatment, no animals in the Force- ris® group but 17% of piglets in the iron dextran based product group had Hb levels < 9 g/dL indicative of anae- mia. These results suggest that both products were safe (Figure 7) and effective for the prophy laxis of IDA in pig- lets, although the prevention of IDA was superior for Forceris® compared to iron dextran based.
