pigs. In wild boar, ASF is a bit of a black box as we don’t know what we don’t know. We have to give credit to authorities in South Korea and (Asian) Russia for frequently and immediately reporting outbreaks of ASF in wild boar. Thanks to their reports, a picture emerges that might apply to other countries in Asia, from which not as much detailed information comes. Keeping in mind how easily the ASF virus can travel across bor-
ders, it is therefore likely that the virus is present in wild boar populations in both North Korea and northern China as well, constituting a large ASFv reservoir. It will take some time before Asia will be able to join Belgium, I’m afraid.
