School Transportation News Published by STN Media Group

School Transportation News founders Bill and Colette Paul established the Peter J. Grandolfo Memorial Award of Excellence to recognize a school transportation professional who exhibits exemplary service on behalf of the nation’s schoolchildren, especially those with disabilities. Julie Hrebicek, the director of transportation for Magnolia Independent School District in Texas, is the 16th recipient of the award and was recognized in July at STN EXPO Reno. Read more Hrebicek and the Grandolfo Award at stnonline.com/go/gr.

I wanted to send you a quick email saying, thank you. You truly made a world of difference in Julie’s life by recognizing her for the Peter Grandolfo Memorial Award of Excellence. Magnolia ISD pushed out the press release on our webpage, and also on all our social me- dia accounts. The response from the public and the MISD staff has been overwhelmingly positive. What touches me the most is when I read all the congratulatory comments from Julie’s staff. They are so supportive and proud of her. It is obvious the love they have for such a wonderful person and a great leader. I can’t stop there. Not only is this a huge honor for Julie but also Magnolia ISD and the Magnolia transportation department. Our superintendent is planning to recog- nize Julie at our September board meeting. You and your team do an amazing job with everything. Thank you for orchestrating yet another exceptionally successful conference. I know it is not an easy task, but just know this … because of what you do, the world of transportation is a better experience for everyone. Joe Dives, Executive Director of Support Services Magnolia Independent School District in Texas

School bus advocate Cal LeMon, who died in December, is remembered by the student transportation industry as a tireless advocate of school bus and student safety. Read Editor-in-Chief Ryan Gray’s recent column about LeMon’s legacy at stnonline.com/go/may23.

I’m just getting caught up on my reading. The editorial you wrote on Cal LeMon was excellent. You paid tribute to a true champion of pupil transportation. Thank you for writing so eloquently and passionately about such an eloquent and passionate man. Ken Hedgecock, National Sales Manager USSC Group

The Garage stars in August were selected out of 120 entries from school districts, private bus companies, school bus dealers, and vendors. The winners are chosen based on community involvement, leadership, industry development, training capability, and more. Learn more about the recognition at stnonline.com/go/aug23.

Every year, School Transportation News calls for nominations from school districts and private contractors to recognize maintenance professionals across our industry as Garage Stars. This recognition program honors individuals who exemplify ten traits, including community involvement, leadership, and experience level. From Petermann Bus, we are proud to recognize Heather Schnitker- Blume, from Talawanda, Ohio, as one of this year’s nominees! Congratulations on your achievement, Heather. Facebook/Petermann Bus
