Clint Bryer, vice president of mar-
keting for Safety Vision, noted that cloud security adds an extra layer of protection by safeguarding the video and providing secure access to authorized personnel. “Cloud-based solutions also
reduce the need for extensive physical infrastructure, leading to cost savings in terms of storage and maintenance,” he added. Remote access to video is import-
ant to Zach McKinney, director of transportation at Hamilton South- eastern Schools in Fishers, Indiana. “This allows us to give access to administrators at all 23 buildings to view and respond to incidents that occur on the school bus,” he said of the Microsoft Office cloud. “The ability for our administrators to access the video through the cloud storage has
been very beneficial to helping them address student behaviors.” Mike Breitenbecher, director of transportation for Pinckney Com- munity Schools in Michigan, said he has also found remote storage to be advantageous. “By having a video download
remotely and be accessible via the cloud, I was able to investigate an in- cident that occurred remotely versus me coming into the office or being on-site,” he shared. And since the data is stored off-
site, there’s no need to worry that a system failure will result in lost data. “Reputable companies that offer cloud storage have redundancies to ensure that the data is kept safe,” Breitenbecher noted. At the same time, he and his staff consider their reliance on the cloud
as a work in progress. The district has found its AngelTrax system to be reliable but have yet to take full advantage of its capabilities. “As with many other transporta-
tion directors, this is a small piece of our responsibilities and probably doesn’t receive as much attention as it should,” he said. “We use a mix of cloud storage and on-site storage for our videos.”
35% Transportation
directors/supervisors said they store data in the cloud.
