Editor’s Note: The following comment discusses the special
report “Student Transporters Constantly Adapt to Weather Con- ditions” (
stnonline.com/go/4f) that reviewed how school buses are maintained, in order to operate in winter conditions.
Proud to have our transportation department featured in a
national school transportation publication! @lyonsje and his crew work hard year-round, but in winters like this, we are especially thankful! #weareWatauga

Editor’s Note: The comment below responds to a Wire Report
(
stnonline.com/go/wr) that discussed New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo adding school bus safety into the fiscal year 2020 Ex- ecutive Budget. The proposal would authorize school districts to install stop-arm cameras on school buses, increase the fine for illegally passing a school bus and require all students to wear seat belts on school buses.
That is a good step, but if @nygovCuomo really wants to
protect children’s health and fight #climatechange he needs to push for #electricschoolbuses. We can’t keep using #clean- dieasel and #fossilfuels to power school buses. #cleaner4kids #cleanride4kids #righttozero

Editor’s Note: The article on the Jayme Closs abduction in
Wisconsin (
stonline.com/go/4c) and the role school bus drivers can play in identifying child predators and human trafficking triggered much discussion on our Facebook Page.
The number one thing that could be done to improve safety is to put a monitor on every bus so we could actually focus on driving, and on pick-ups and drop offs. This dude was behind the bus watching in his vehicle. How do I even know he is back there if he is pulled all the way up to me? And, I see the same vehicles day in and day out at stops. We can’t get cops to patrol areas with high rates of stop sign violations. How are we going to get them to investigate every single repeat car at a stop?
