Updated State Laws and Legislation The Indiana Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously passed a school bus stop bill to increase the penalty for illegally passing a school bus, from a Class A infraction to a Class C misdemeanor. The bill will now be reviewed by the full senate for further consideration. New York City


senators introduce two bills that may help with the transparency of transportation. The Student Transportation Oversight Package (STOP) requires that all school buses have communication and


tracking devices by the start of the 2019-2020 school year. Three school transportation-related bills were signed


into law in New Jersey after the fatal N.J. Paramus bus crash that killed a student and teacher. The legisla- tion addresses the employment of bus drivers and the post-accident requirements of school professionals. Read more at stnonline.com/tag/legislation.


As the Academy Awards were set to recognize achievements in cinema


last month, the student transportation industry made its own award news. AMF-Bruns is seeking nominations of distinguished professionals for its second-annual Special Needs Driver of the Year Award. Tammy Cummings of Greenville County Schools in South Carolina (above, with Steve Barker of AMF-Bruns) won last year’s award. Navistar awarded 35 of its top suppliers with Diamond Supplier Status. The award was exclusive to the top two percent of the company’s supplier base. Heavy Duty Trucking named the FleetguardFIT by Cummins Filtration one of the “Top 20 Products for 2019.” Synovia Solutions was nominated in the Tech Service of the Year category at the Mira Awards Gala.
