You don’t need to be a meteorologist (try saying that with a mouth full of toffee….) but you need to know what the wind is going to do before you sail – and if it’s going to change in strength or direction while you’re out sailing. You can get a forecast from club/harbour noticeboards, internet, ceefax, radio, tv and phone – the internet is one of the most accurate as it is updated regularly. If you are sailing on coastal waters, the best bet is the inshore waters forecast from the Met Office.
