10 QUESTIONS WITH...

10 QUESTIONS WITH... KEVIN GRANT

Each issue we ask an industry professional the Tomorrow’s Tile &

Stone 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Kevin Grant, Associate Contract Sales Director from Designworks Tiles…

1

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB? Working on the merchandising team for the long-defunct Fine Fare supermarket chain.

2 3

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE TILING INDUSTRY?

For many years I worked in sales for large-scale housing developers and choosing finishes was very much part of the role. When the opportunity arose to go from “game keeper turned poacher”, I jumped at it.

WHO, IN ANY OTHER INDUSTRY, DO YOU MOST ADMIRE?

Richard Branson as he seems to engender incredible loyalty and enthusiasm in his staff.

4 5

6

IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT, WHAT CAR WOULD YOU BUY?

The biggest Range Rover with every bell and whistle on it!

IF YOU COULD INVENT ONE PRODUCT TO MAKE YOUR JOB EASIER, WHAT WOULD IT

BE? A matter transporter, just like Star Trek – no more delivery issues

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE GROWING UP?

I wanted to be on the stage.

7 8

WHAT DO YOU DO TO UNWIND? Golf badly, read thrillers compulsively, and consume the

odd bottle of red wine

IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY WITH ANY THREE GUESTS, DEAD OR ALIVE,

WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY? Winston Churchill because he inspired a nation to collective greatness. Sammy Davis Jnr because he overcame prejudice, injury, and had the most incredible voice. Queen Victoria to see if we could amuse her.

9

IF YOU COULD VISIT ANY PLACE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND

WHY? The Seychelles with my wife, Julie, to have cocktails on a perfect beach with a perfect sunset.

MADELEINE MCMULLIN, MARKETING CONSULTANT FROM SOURCE

MARKETING, ASKED: Do you think that the trend for ever larger tiles will continue indefinitely or is there a point beyond which it has to stop?

Terrific Question! With slabs at over 3m high readily available, I truly believe that the race, and the market, for how big you can go is pretty much there now.
