SPECIAL FOCUS: TRAINING & EDUCATION PREPARE TO LEARN

We find out more about the training courses that The Preparation Group offers to help keep contractors’ and tilers’ surface preparation knowledge and skills up to date.

The preparation of subfloors prior to laying tiles is critical to ensure the success of the finished floor. An unprepared or incorrectly prepared surface will impact on the application, aesthetic result and durability of the final floor and can be costly to remedy. Training on the best methods of removing old bedding compounds, previous floorcoverings and adhesives to achieve a suitable flat surface, not only enables more efficient operations and an increase to the bottom line but prevents expensive failures. Attending a course with instruction on how to maintain the newly installed floor and imparting this information onto the customer, also adds considerable value to the services offered.

Changes in legislation, new product innovations and to learn more efficient ways of working, are just some of the reasons to invest in training. Using mechanical surface preparation equipment is a clean, efficient and cost-effective way of preparing subfloors and training by a reputable company with good resources and technical expertise, will prove invaluable.

The Preparation Group provides the theory and the important practical training on the operation of equipment, when to select one preparation method over another and on how to polish and maintain stone and tiled surfaces, with regular course dates throughout the year. It is a flexible approach with courses customised around customers’ individual needs.

Tracey Glew, The Preparation Group’s Group Managing Director, said: “Our Training Hub has a demonstration area of over 500m2

of evolving surfaces including; tiles, terrazzo,

resin systems, screed coatings, old adhesives, concrete and more. There are problem surfaces that tilers will encounter on a project, all of which can be removed, prepared, polished and cleaned using our shotblasters, planers, grinders, scrapers, STGs, burnishers and hand tools.

“Courses are developed and delivered by our NVQ Assessor for FeRFA’s prepare and profile substrates modules, with live machine operations and applications, tailored for site
