THE SHOW STOPPERS
Cersaie, the international event for
designers of ceramic and other surface coverings and bathroom furnishings, once again returned to Bologna this
September. Here, Tile of Spain, the voice of the Spanish tile industry, outlines its findings from the event and its forecast for the major tile trends of 2019.
MAXIMALISM
The interiors and fashion worlds have embraced Maximalism enthusiastically, so it’s not surprising to find it infiltrating the tile industry. Maximalism isn’t about any one material or style, but the bold use of pattern and/or colour, or both, in an extensive way in a space. It could be a richly-veined marble effect; it could be extra-large chunks of terrazzo-style chips or an oversized leaf or floral pattern digitally printed onto porcelain slabs. Often, it’s the saturated use of colour in an interior, with a hue that’s arresting rather than subtle….so a Blue-Green, Magenta or Spiced Orange.
