LIVING SPACES STEP INSIDE

particularly if highly polished or wet. But simply adding a good quality, durable hallway runner with a non-slip backing will prevent slips and falls no matter what surface they are placed on.

What’s more, a hallway runner will help minimise the amount of noise traditionally generated by footsteps on hard flooring. As we’ve already mentioned, hallways are commonly high- traffic areas and can also be echoey if not properly furnished, so the addition of a hallway runner will dampen these sounds and vibrations in busy households.

Space Utilisation

Narrow rooms like hallways often have limited floor space, which means you have few options when it comes to adding decorative elements. This is where hallway runners become the ideal hallway decorating solutions, as they add that touch of colour and intrigue without encroaching on the limited space. The right runner can also have brightening, lengthening and widening effects on narrow, small spaces, giving the illusion of more space.

Versatility

Whether your customers find it hard to make interior decor decisions or like a change every now and again, the beauty of hallway runners and area rugs is that they are easily movable and interchangeable. If they decide to change the hallway colour scheme, the runner can be changed to match. Or perhaps they want to temporarily change the decor theme to something more festive over the Christmas period, it can be done. Hallway runners are the ultimate non-committal home decoration tool that can make a huge difference to even the narrowest of spaces, so take advantage.

Why CarpetRunners.com is on a roll

Family carpet business CarpetRunners.com began with one shop in Grimsby and is set to expand to 20 countries over the next two years.

The third-generation company announced its international expansion plans after posting record turnover during 2017.

The business, led by Managing Director Myles Shaw, turned over £2m in 2017 and has targeted £10m turnover by 2021 through sales of carpet runners, for use in hallways and staircases.

It will add France, Germany, Australia and Canada to its list by the end of the year.

The plans come following a whirlwind seven years for the business, which now employs 10 people and began as an offshoot of the shop Shaw’s family had run since 1945.

They used technology to accelerate the business’ growth and its profile soared when Shaw and his three brothers began posting pictures and videos on social media.

He said: “CarpetRunners.com has grown year on year and the time is right for us to continue that expansion abroad.

“When we started using social media to promote the business we were just four brothers being ourselves and people seemed to like it. There has been a lot of hard work in the background, though, and when I worked 16-hour days in the early days of the business I was working every minute. All that effort was worth it and we’re ambitious and excited about what the future holds for CarpetRunners.com.”
