WP GROUP COMPLETES EVENTFUL PROJECT

Carpet racking specialist WP Group recently supplied and installed bespoke carpet storage solutions for a well-respected events carpet supplier.

As a supplier of premium carpet solutions for major national events and exhibitions across the UK, MJ’s Events Services continually face the logistical challenges of receiving, handling and dispatching a diverse range of flooring solutions specifically designed to maximise the visitor experience of each custom-fitted venue.

When fitting out its brand-new Midlands warehouse, MJ’s required specialist carpet racking capable of holding up to 500,000 m2

of high-quality exhibition

carpets. As a company with over 30 years’ experience in warehouse racking installations, WP Group was asked to

design, install and build carpet racks capable of maximising the space and efficiency of MJ’s purpose-built storage space.

WP Group worked very closely with MJ’s to achieve optimum storage while allowing comfortable aisle widths for the use of forklift trucks fitted with 4M carpet booms required to load the racking.

Commenting on the completion of the project, MJ’s Chief Operating Officer, Jennifer Bishopp, said: “After exploring options in the market, we found that WP Group provided us with a solution that met our brief and budget. Their proposal was clear to understand and was accompanied by layout drawings that were put together following their survey of our facility and numerous changes that were thrown at them.

“Their response to changes during the design stage was always friendly and fast, so we were never kept waiting

ROBOTIC ARM BOOSTS OUTPUT FOR ABINGDON CARPET TILE DIVISION

A new robotic arm is reshaping the production team in the Abingdon Carpet Tile Division of Abingdon Flooring.

Affectionately named Ronaldo after the footballer for its speed and efficiency, the robotic arm is transforming the sort and pack process of carpet tiles in preparation for despatch. It currently packs at a rate of 65 boxes per hour, resulting in an output of 2,600m2

of carpet

tiles per shift. Whilst that may seem quick, the robot is actually working at a relatively low speed. With faster speeds available, this allows the robotic arm to help Abingdon Carpet Tile Division to dramatically improve production capacity, securing future growth for the South Wales production facility.

As an investment of £360,000 for Abingdon Flooring, Ronaldo underlines the company’s commitment to British manufacturing and represents part of a wider investment programme across its residential and commercial production facilities. Previously, the

and always knew exactly where we were in the procurement process. The installation went according to plan, and we started loading the racking as soon as it was signed off.

“We have found that the after-sales care service and advice provided has also been excellent, which is a big positive when forming a new business partnership.”

tasks now undertaken by the robotic arm required a team of seven people to inspect the carpet tiles, make-up boxes and pack. After installation of the arm, the same process now only requires a crew of two. This has allowed Abingdon Carpet Tile Division to relocate the skills and experience of five employees to new areas of carpet tile production, further boosting efficiency.

Shaun Evans, plant manager, Abingdon Carpet Tile Division, explained: “The installation of Ronaldo, our robotic arm, has significantly improved the efficiency of carpet tile production.

“It is not only helping to make our packaging far quicker, but it has also allowed us to use the skilled labour of five employees in other areas of production, improving the wider manufacturing process too. Ronaldo is testament that man and labour-saving robots can work in harmony to allow us capacity for growth.”

Abingdon Carpet Tile Division makes a range of hardwearing and durable carpet tiles engineered to withstand use across a broad range of environments. Thanks to the efforts of Ronaldo, Abingdon carpet tiles are a great value solution, in-stock and ready for fast delivery.
