FOCUS ON CARPETS, RUGS & ACCESSORIES Work Ar

Daniel Prendergast, Founder and Managing Director of www.therugseller.co.uk, atte rooms, explaining how it is possible to

It’s true that adding a rug to a near-finished room can add visual interest and bring existing elements together, but, for me, rugs are much more than that. A rug can anchor a room, define it, add warmth and help to layer décor. Homeowners may find that flipping the design process on its head by starting with a rug can have many benefits.

The wonderful thing about starting with the floor is that it presents the opportunity to build a space piece by piece, rather than getting overwhelmed with the rug, furniture, walls, and window treatments all at once.

It’s also a great way to introduce bold colour, especially if your customer is a little nervous about using colour in the home. Start with a feature rug and then bring in pops of colour with accessories around the room. Homeowners should consider using neutrals on the walls, such as off-white, beige, grey or coffee tans, which will allow the dominant colour to sing throughout their space.

In open-plan homes, studio apartments or larger rooms, a rug can be used to define or separate areas, such as seating or dining areas and foyers.

Rugs can also help to create variety in a space. When you use two rugs in a room, be aware that same-sized rugs can visually cut the room in two. Different sized rugs can create a sense of variety and complementary patterns will prevent the scheme from looking too busy.

Go Retro

Bold colours offer the opportunity to experiment with pattern in varying scales. A reversible flatweave rug with a bold retro-geometric design, the Rivi rug is certain to brighten up any interior scheme.

Below, I’ve put together a selection of my favourite rug designs that will help to make a house a home.

Geological Forms A Modern Masterpiece

Bright abstract designs are a great way for homeowners to add a quirky, vibrant feature to their space. For example, the fresh and dynamic colour tones of the soft and durable Amal rug will certainly make a feature of a floor.

Reflecting the enduring trend for nature- inspired interiors, try suggesting muted colourways, such as browns, coppers and greys, with a pattern that reflects a natural material. Hand-tufted with the finest wool and viscose yarn, the linear design of the Formation rug mirrors those found in wood and rock structures
