BOOST YOUR RETAIL BUSINESS
BY RECYCLING Carpet Recycling UK will again be promoting its sustainable services at the 2014 Buying Groups’ National Flooring Show, on the 13th and 14th of May.
Visitors to CRUK’s stand at the Solihull event can learn more about how an expansion in clean installation waste take-back schemes, plus the rising numbers of outlets processing carpet waste for new uses, offers many advantages for retailers.

AT CLERYS Two designs from Kahrs wood flooring collection have been installed at Clerys, one of Ireland’s most iconic department stores.
Following flash flooding, the building was completely refurbished over a rapid four month timeframe. Interior architecture, retail and graphic design was undertaken by Jennings Design Studio. One-strip Kahrs Oak Lofoten and Oak Studio wood flooring, in a herringbone format, was supplied by TileStyle and installed by DJ Kelly Ltd.
VORWERK MAKES FIRM
COMMITMENT Vorwerk Carpets has announced the acquisition of rival German manufacturer, Norddeutsche Teppichfabrik, from receiver Udo Müller, for an undisclosed sum.
Taking over the Nordpfeil carpet brand as part of the agreement, Vorwerk Carpets will continue production uninterrupted, and will begin to drive the brand within the UK residential carpet sector under the watchful gaze of well-regarded new appointment Howard Lindsay, formerly of Mohawk.
Ian Hammond, UK Sales Director for Vorwerk Carpets, commented: “Well-

In CRUK’s third appearance at Cranmore Park, the association will be highlighting responsible disposal alternatives for post-consumer and clean installation carpet waste. Having beaten its original landfill diversion target (25% by 2015) two years early,
“Kahrs designs provided us with a stunning finish, which complemented the sensitive refurbishment. The wood flooring was easy to install and hardwearing, which is essential in a high-traffic environment,” commented Susan McBride, Studio Manager at Jennings Design Studio.

established and highly regarded in Germany, the Nordpfeil brand is the perfect acquisition for us, as it presents a new perspective for our UK residential sales, sitting perfectly alongside existing high-end Vorwerk carpets. Nordpfeil will allow us to deliver a more cost-effective product line without detracting from the Vorwerk name that is now synonymous with the premium end of the sector.”
The appointment of Howard to the team will further help to strengthen Vorwerk within the UK residential sector. With a long and successful track record of growing brands within the sector, Howard will bring his knowledge and well-established network of retail contacts to both brands.

with a 27% rate in 2013, CRUK is keen to attract even more retailers.
“Retailers who take positive steps towards sustainable disposal of waste carpet, such as participation in take- back schemes, can benefit from enhanced customer perceptions and reduced waste collections,” commented CRUK Director, Laurance Bird.
“Not only are they enhancing their green credentials in helping to divert carpet and underlay waste from landfill, but they differentiate their business from competitors. This is an added selling point for increasingly eco-conscious consumers,” Laurance concluded.
