What was your first job? My first job was a Marine
Engineer Artificer in the Royal Navy. This role involved me repairing and maintaining equipment, from gas turbines to hydraulic systems.

How did you get into the flooring industry?
I worked in the coating industry selling corrosion protection products for Belzona. This role enabled me to establish relationships with key end- users in the manufacturing sector.

What do you think the positives and negatives of the
flooring industry are? It’s a very buoyant market sector, with a wide range of UK manufactured products. However, UK flooring companies need to sell the merits of their products not just on price.

If you could hire any one person to be part of your team,
who would it be and why? Richard Branson, as I think it would be great to see what his entrepreneurial and innovative mind thought of the flooring industry.

Where would you like to be a fly on the wall?
The Liverpool changing room at Anfield, to see how Brendan Rogers motivates his team.

If you won the lottery, what would be the first
thing you’d buy? I would buy a family season ticket to watch Liverpool at Anfield.
If you could have any super power, what would it
be and why? To be able to fly. I really enjoy travelling so I would fly to as many capital cities within the time limit of my superpower lasting!
If you could be one person for a day, who would it be and why?
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, because of his highly admirable commitment, professionalism and talent, which I think are second to none.

What would you like to see in a future issue of
Tomorrow’s Flooring? Environmental trends and technologies are a popular and ever-changing topic within the construction industry generally, so I think keeping up with the latest news on how this impacts the flooring world will always be important.

Do you see the future of flooring have a strong
presence of social media? I certainly think social media has a strong presence in the flooring industry; it’s the way forward on many levels.
