HALFTIME OVERHAUL

Forget the usual charity presentations, half-hearted penalty or quick beer at the bar; halftime officially got exciting state-side recently, with an incredible 3D floor projection at a basketball court in Ohio.

The entire basketball court at Ohio’s Quicken Loans Arena was recently transformed into a huge screen, on which a dramatic video was projected, during half time proceedings.

effect moves from one side of the court to the other, in a Mexican-wave style format. Flags with each of the Cleveland Cavaliers players appear to drop from the side, accompanied by voice-overs from previous victories and baskets, followed by both stills and video clips accompanied by music that wouldn’t sound out of place in a Lord of the Rings battle scene.

The display was put together by Quince Imaging, providers of image projection and 3D technology, with video content produced by Think Media Studios and Cavs QTV.

system, often for use in impressive live events and multi-media shows, and allowing pixel-for-pixel content. Enhancing the immersive experience one step further, a single audio feed was synced perfectly with the projections, booming out through the arena.

Quince Imaging also provided two 16ft by 28ft screens to which fans and visitors could tweet their reactions.

All of this was in honour of one of their players, fan favourite and centre Zydrunas Ilgauskas, whose number 11 shirt was retired during the game.
