FM EVENTS WINNERS FOR 30 YEARS Since 1987 the Loo of the Year Awards


has established itself as one of the leading events in the UK cleaning and FM industry calendar. Managing Director Mike Bone

The Loo of the Year Awards exists to encourage the highest standards in washrooms throughout the UK and Ireland. Everyone has a shared responsibility to make this happen – washroom providers, washroom suppliers, cleaning contractors, FM companies, staff, visitors and customers – all toilet users. The Awards have been owned and run independently and since their introduction in 1987, the annual Loo of the Year Awards competition focuses on washrooms owned, managed or cleaned by the entrants. It is ‘the washroom standard’.


The new ‘Washroom Cleaner of the Year Awards’, which have replaced the previous Attendant of the Year Awards this year, relate specifically to the cleaning staff that looks after facilities, rather than the washrooms themselves. All cleaning staff seen during an inspection visit will automatically be considered for the ‘Washroom Cleaner of the Year Award’ for all entries that are declared as ‘Full time attended toilets’ on the Entry Form.


Any type of ‘away-from-home’ washroom can be nominated or entered in the competition, and washrooms in all market sectors are covered including retail, hospitality, leisure, holiday parks, education, offices, car parks, public toilets, and transport, covering sixty separate Awards categories. Entries are accepted from anywhere in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.


Every entry is fully assessed against established judging criteria, covering male and female facilities, as well as any baby changing, accessible, Changing Places, Space to Change or Hygiene Room facilities. All entries receive a Loo of the Year Awards grading certificate; Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum, following an unannounced visit by a fully trained and authorised Loo of the Year Awards Inspector. Mike Bone, Managing Director of the Loo of the Year Awards, said: “The improving economic situation and targeting of new entry prospects has resulted in a year on year increase in new entrants. Entries are particularly strong in the retail sector – including all major shopping centres, hospitality – including Asda, McDonald’s, JD Wetherspoon, and prestigious buildings and holiday park market sectors, with increasing numbers of entries directly from cleaning and FM companies.”
