The current energy crisis presents an opportunity for the facilities management sector to make a real impact in terms of sustainability and energy management. With recent events, some businesses are looking at annual energy bills which have increased by up to eight times on previous cost levels.


Faced with scarily high energy costs, businesses are now flocking to renewable energy specialists with more urgency than ever. The industry needs to show businesses a sustainable way forward.


One size doesn’t always fit all Over the last three months, facility management providers have seen an influx of enquiries for help with energy management.


A multitude of businesses are currently affected. From those which involve high levels of energy consumption such as bakeries which rely on the grid to power their

ovens, right through to those with straight-forward operative models such as offices powering computers and other equipment.


Solar panels are becoming highly sought-after with clients expecting them to be the answer to all of their problems. But covering a roof with solar panels without having a full understanding of the implications won’t always be the optimum solution.


There is an alternative route. One that involves reviewing the client’s systems holistically in terms of performance and operation.


Looking at the bigger picture The word ‘holistic’ is often used regarding healthcare. Holistic treatment refers to the idea that a person is made up of interlinking parts and that none of those elements can work in isolation. So rather than simply prescribing a patient suffering from migraines with painkillers, holistic
