FRONT OF HOUSE
Enthusiasm, willingness to learn, a strong sense of self; all these core values can be identified in strong candidates who have the tenacity to apply for a role they might not be traditionally equipped for.
“Enthusiasm, willingness to learn, a strong sense of self; all these core values can be identified in strong candidates.”
Recently, we had a candidate apply for a front of house role for one of our client offices. Her name is Ingrid, and she is 57. Ingrid had very limited computer skills and no particular experience on her CV relating to a service profession, which are usually two key components for a candidate looking to enter this kind of role. The fact that Ingrid lacked these meant she could have been viewed as the least desirable candidate. However, it was Ingrid’s personality and enthusiasm for helping people that made her the best fit.

Since starting, Ingrid has been given all the relevant training to be able to use a computer effectively, and she has fallen right into place within the team. Training and skills can be taught, but you can’t teach a personality, and that is the most valuable part of a candidate that we seek out for our front of house roles. The client loves Ingrid and the energy she brings to her role, as well as her eagerness to learn and take on something new.
What clients want and expect from their FOH providers has shifted since the pandemic, and the service has taken a bigger step into the limelight. The roles of front of house teams are now extending beyond the reception desk. The new FOH teams are not only at the front – they roam the workplace to be able to assist employees and guests with a variety of issues and needs that can appear throughout the working day. It’s an enhanced service that involves teams truly embedding themselves within client teams, and always looking for ways to add value.
Hence, the title ‘DayMaker’. We want to make our clients day, however that takes shape for them.
