CAFM & IT FASTER, SMARTER,HAPPIER NFS Technology explores the trends that will lead your workplace in 2023.

Here comes Workplace 2023, the home of the most diverse, distributed and conscience-driven workforce there’s ever been.

For workplace leaders working to make it happen, there are four major changes that will continue to evolve:

1. Working modes

2. Shifting employee expectations and behavioural changes

3. The people-centric workplace 4. The new real estate values

Working modes Workplaces worldwide adapted fast to hybrid working, and then it turned out the model had a lot going for it. Workers liked the flexibility and productivity did not suffer.

This opened the door to rethinking the function of the office. Today’s workplace is a hub for collaboration and networking, a place to attend for a specific reason just a few days a week. Many organisations are repurposing their workspace as a result.

2023 trend: Organisations will work even to create enticing, purposeful workspace that gives employees a real reason to make the journey.

Shifting employee expectations Employees of all ages now have a new idea of how their work-life balance should look. Younger people in particular live and breathe the ethos of wellbeing, and also want organisations to have strong ethics and an environmentally-friendly stance.

2023 trend: Employees will cling even harder to flexible working, and shun organisations who do not offer it. They will also turn away from companies who do not assess and improve their impact on society and the environment.

The people-centric workplace Workplace leaders have developed more empathic modes of management to accommodate these behavioural changes and expectations, and that will continue in 2023.

Hybrid and remote working can have downsides, such as people struggling to collaborate effectively. Maintaining good communication channels will become even more important, and technology will continue to provide the support managers need in the people-centric workplace.

2023 trend: Workplace leaders will strengthen their use of digital technology to provide a positive employee experience, and bolster communications and collaboration.

The new real estate values A report from Australian developer Mirvac, with Worktech Academy, says traditional valuation metrics should be expanded to take into account human experiences and interactions as well as headcount.

Workplace leaders are evaluating their real estate in new ways, looking at how it can be repurposed or resized to fit changing. For instance, many are turning formal meeting rooms into flexible, bookable collaboration areas.

The most successful use sensors integrated with workplace management systems to capture utilisation data for desks and meeting rooms and analysing it to drive good planning decisions.

2023 trend: Data-driven decision making will become the heart of operations for industry leaders.

Digital transformation Industry champion Luis De Souza, CEO of NFS Technology, provider of workplace management platform Rendezvous, says: “As we enter 2023, digital foundations have been laid to ensure work will become faster, smarter and happier.

“Facilities managers are running their workplaces holistically with the help of HR and IT professionals – and using digital technology to power operations and decision-making.”

Three steps to take in 2023: 1. Ensure every employee has equal access to digital tools and services.

“Digital democracy gives everyone access to technology that supports and empowers workplace flexibility,” De Souza says.

2.Focus on integration.

“Eliminate friction between different systems by deploying a workplace management system that integrates seamlessly with other technologies such as sensors.”

3. Be people-centric.

“Workspace technologies require employee engagement. Remember the three A’s – automation, AI and analytics – they enable staff to define solutions that work, and adopt them with enthusiasm,” De Souza concludes.
