COVER STORY

“The fact that Metsa Tissue has such a good environmental story gives us something extra to share with the children, when they are making the briquettes. We especially like to tell them how Metsa replace every tree cut down, with four new ones, because this re-enforces our own tree planting initiatives.”

HEALTHY, CLEAN AND

SUSTAINABLE Bellrock Property & Facilities Management took over a range of facilities management services at West Berkshire Community Hospital in June 2010 following the administration of Jarvis PLC. The facilities management team of 42 transferred in to Bellrock and now have a 30 year contract with the Hospital. For the six years prior to Bellrock taking this contract, Jarvis had been providing Katrin tissue products and dispensers, via a framework agreement, from a long standing Katrin Distributor: Premiere Products. Bellrock reviewed this decision in line with the acquired contractual commitments, and it was decided that Katrin continued to be the most cost-effective and functional solution fully meeting the hospital’s needs.

Commitment to reducing the carbon footprint has always been a key driver for public sector organisations and the fact that Katrin products have a proven green heritage adds value. Ifor Sheldon, Contract Manager for the hospital explained: “Like all public institutions, protecting the environment by reducing our carbon footprint is another key measure for hospitals. From good forestry practices and recognised Eco labels right through to recycling, the Katrin messages are very impressive.”

DESTINATION GREEN Kim Evans, Owner of Premier Travel said: “Here at Premier, we arrange first class travel without first class prices, for a wide range of clients. With destinations ranging from single day trips in the UK to longer skiing, summer sun or villa holidays abroad, we absolutely rely on good transport all the time.”

Premier have a preferred transport partner, The Kings Ferry, a company

well known for its ability to provide the best luxury coach hire services, while adhering to Duty of Care legislation. Kim explained: “I know I can rely on Kings to deliver the level of transport service and care that I need, but I also have another very important partner in our business model, and that is Metsa Tissue.

“Katrin products from Metsa Tissue support the business in a range of ways. The mobile Easy Pick products are ideal for guests on the move to wipe messy hands and faces, or mop up spilled drinks. Coach vacuum toilets are prone to blockages. Here, EasyFlush helps because it breaks down faster than any other product we’ve tried, saving us money because it has almost eliminated toilet blockages. Perhaps most importantly, any travel company inevitably has a large carbon footprint and we do our best to offset it in a number of ways.”

“The fact that Metsa Tissue has such a good environmental story, and that Katrin products are made from sustainable sources, is another bonus, as it is another way for us to offset our carbon footprint.”

CARING FOR EVERYTHING SML Hygiene (Southern Medical Ltd.) is a leading supplier of nursing disposables, hygiene, cleaning, janitorial, medical disposables and equipment to clients in the healthcare, medical, veterinarian, catering and hospitality sectors. SML deal with many care homes, covering residential, nursing or dementia care and they work with their clients to create bespoke packages, based on a ‘budget per head, per day’. Gerard Rayappu, Managing Director for SML explained: “Budgeting is key for these organisations and we work hard with them to help them to maintain better visibility, and ultimately better control.”

As with any healthcare organisation, care homes are always looking at the sustainability of all aspects of their service provision, from the build itself, through energy consumption right down to the consumables they use. Gerard said: “This is no problem with Katrin. Metsa Tissue’s environmental messages are among the best in the industry, and these are extremely well received.

“Anything we can do as a provider, to help our customers meet Corporate & Social Responsibility commitments is a plus. With Metsa Tissue, they have a great story to tell, from chain of custody and forestry certifications and Eco labels, through to biofuel projects where they use waste from the mill to provide heat to local towns. Their new innovative Handy Pack casing solutions support their environmental themes even further, and they have something interesting to say, every time we talk to them.”

So, sustainability is still key for all organisations and Katrin can deliver on this need. Mark concluded: “You can see in these case studies, from teaching young children, looking after every day health, supporting people in their leisure time, right through to caring for people in their later years, Katrin can really add value to comfort, hygiene and Corporate Social Responsibility targets.”
