Although we’re trying to put as brave a face on it as we can, it’s clear that the fight
against the Coronavirus in the UK has not gone as well as we’d hoped. Opening back up didn’t happen in a clean, controlled way: the floodgates burst open as impatience, unclear messaging and unenforced rules led to mass mingling. Now we’re facing the inevitable consequences, as infection rates accelerate and local lockdowns stack up.
In the midst of the shambolic return to work, the efforts of the industry are quickly being forgotten. Cleaning and disinfecting have been to key to keeping facilities safe for workers and customers, but the more of society that reopens, cleaning
transitions back into an unseen industry, not celebrated for the quality of its service, only blamed whenever there are failings.
A prime example is the news that many shops and supermarkets have been quick to ditch their dedicated cleaning teams, forcing already overworked and untrained shop floor workers to take over the vital cleaning duties. At a time when cleaning
and hygiene are more important than ever not just for business operation, but staff and customer wellbeing, this is a shameful indictment of a corporate mentality
that somehow still manages to see little value in cleaning and hygiene, despite the obvious benefits to both customer health and confidence.
In this month’s issue of Tomorrow’s Cleaning, we’ve got all the information for you on the upcoming Cleaning Interactive 2020 and virtual Manchester Cleaning Show
2020. These pioneering digital-only events promise to offer up a new and unique way for cleaning and hygiene companies to interact and network, along with dozens of
knowledge-sharing seminars and opportunities to learn about the latest and greatest industry innovations.
