"Made at the perfect
concentration, it doesn't require further dilution."
Training with Toucan
Steve Courtney, Product Lead and Business Development Manager at Robert Scott, discusses the benefits of the Toucan Eco bio-cleaning solution and how best to utilise the product as part of daily cleaning regimes.
As more and more businesses look to implement sustainable cleaning methods that help in the fight against contamination, we’re often asked by customers how best to use the Toucan Eco chemical-free cleaning solution. This is especially important during the current pandemic as it’s proven to be effective against harder-to-kill viruses than the coronavirus, including the norovirus (99.999%) and poliovirus (99.9999%).
As part of our product training, we will always discuss the innovative new approach with any janitorial team to ensure they understand how the technology works, so we can help them implement the new sanitisation system effectively into their existing practices.
With cleaning products, it’s important to ensure you’re using the right disinfectant agent for the right application to achieve the best result. The solution created by the Toucan Eco system is a multi-surface disinfectant cleaner that has a high kill and speed rate. Certified to both BS EN 1276 and 13697, and with a gentle pH of between 7.7 and 8.2, it’s a non-aggressive cleaner too.
While it doesn’t replace strong degreasers and descalers, the Toucan Eco solution is ideal for daily cleaning, and will sanitise surfaces, washrooms, hard floors, textiles and carpets. It also works particularly well on stainless steel, windows, glass and glossy surfaces, delivering a streak-free finish with no chemical residue.
Using the Toucan Eco solution is a simple process from start to finish, removing the need for a multitude of products across different areas. Most importantly, once the unit is installed, you can start generating the solution onsite, so you’ll never run out.
Application
Once the solution has been produced using electrolysis (electrochemical activation) it’s ready to use. As it’s made at the perfect concentration, it doesn’t require further dilution

and you shouldn’t mix it with chemicals. It can then be decanted into a spray bottle to mist and use to wipe or mop any surface as part of your normal cleaning regime.
For wiping – simply spray the solution directly onto the surface and then rub with a cloth to remove the solution.
For fabric – spray the area with solution and leave to soak. Using a clean cloth or brush, dab to remove the solution and repeat the process until the area is clean.
For mopping – use the solution as a pre-soak for microfibre mop pads, or use the solution in a spray mop. It also works to spray the area and then use hot water to lift the solution, if that’s the method you’re used to.
For floor machines – simply add the activated solution to your machine and clean as normal.
We would always recommend using microfibre to apply the solution, but no special equipment is required. You can use any of the cloths, bottles and mop heads or scrubber dryers you normally use, so there’s no need to buy additional stock.
As the solution is safe to spray on most fabrics and textiles, it also works as a deodoriser. While it’s not designed to mask smells as it’s fragrance free, it does kill the bacteria that cause smells. With a gentle pH it's non-aggressive, non-toxic and non-allergenic, so you can happily spray away in any area.
Once activated, the solution has a shelf life of between five to seven days, after which it reverts back to a slightly salty water, so it can be easily disposed of safely, or reactivated using one of the four devices in the range.
Finally, as it’s safe, it can also be used for personal hygiene in the same way as alcohol and antibacterial hand gels, with the added benefit of not drying out hands and cracking skin with frequent use.
