No longer are ‘green’ products only desirable for their sustainable qualities: now many are able to match or surpass the cleaning powers of traditional materials.
In the healthcare sector in particular, the importance of a rigorous cleaning routine has never been more evident. The prevention of healthcare acquired infections (HAIs) is a major priority for the National Health Service, and it is estimated that around one fifth of all such infections could be avoided through adopting an improved cleaning practice.
And while removing pathogens is clearly key to this process, some cleaning practices are something of a double-edged sword. Certain chemicals can cause both environmental pollution and health problems such as asthma and dermatitis for patients, while occasionally the cleaning procedures themselves could be the root of musculoskeletal problems for cleaning staff.
The introduction of microfibre to a cleaning regime can reduce or remove altogether the requirement for potentially harmful chemicals.

A further drawback is that string mops tend to move dirt around on the surface rather than removing it, which increases the danger of germs being spread onto the next area to be cleaned.
