Editor’s Voice 2022 ended up being quite a busy year for the cleaning and hygiene industry. With the


first Interclean Amsterdam in four years taking place in May, and with other major events throughout the year like the Manchester Cleaning Show and ISSA Show North America, we saw a bit of a resurgence after years of COVID-19 frustrations.


However, it also saw the economy enter a particularly rough patch, and it’s one that we’re going to have to contend with as we head into 2023. There’s a lot of optimism for the


future, especially with major events coming like the London Cleaning Show 2023, but it’s tempered somewhat by the problems our industry is facing, like the high cost of energy, fuel and raw materials, as well as staff shortages and a general cost of living crisis.


Still, it was great to see the report by MPs released in December making a number of recommendations for the Government to take on board in order to improve the UK’s preparedness for any future public health emergencies. Hopefully these will be acted on, ensuring that the industry’s efforts to create a standard qualification for cleaning operatives can lead to a brighter future for those entering the industry.


In this issue of Tomorrow’s Cleaning, we look at Food Safety and Steam Cleaning, as Essity’s Jeremy Bennett looks at ways of helping ease pressures on hospitality staff by


speeding up cleaning and hygiene in kitchens. Daniel Took from Kärcher UK investigates why industrial steam cleaning is becoming the most popular cleaning method for UK


food manufacturers, and Alliance Online’s Rachael Kiss gives us some advice on avoiding cross-contamination in kitchens.
