ADVERTORIAL A sustainable future

Here, we learn more about EcoTech (Europe) Limited’s history and their drive towards environmental responsibility.

One of Europe’s largest manufacturers of wet and dry wipes, EcoTech (Europe) Limited, have a 21-year trading history and are still a family-run business with family values in mind.

The company prides itself on ethical trading, and in the last two years they have moved their focus onto environmentally responsible cleaning products. Initial research into environmentally responsible products in 2016 more often than not returned the same conclusion: that for the consumer, it was more expensive to scrap plastic-based products and switch to compostable alternatives than stick with the status quo.

However, towards the end of 2017, EcoTech noticed that a mainstream media push has created a large demand, and therefore their suppliers were able to reduce prices on a variety of ‘eco’ alternatives. This made a whole new range of products, as well as replacement products, a far more viable option. The company had also seen the adverse effects of plastic within the sea from plastic wet wipes, which pushed their focus towards how they can do their bit to improve the environment we all live and work in.

In July 2018, EcoTech launched their first natural wet wipe, this being a 100% natural, plastic-free and compostable baby wipe. This was shortly followed in September by a 100% natural, plastic-free and compostable surface disinfectant wipe. It was at this point the company began to look at their existing range

of cleaning cloths and started to plan how they could make a start on a complete transformation of their core range to environmentally neutral products.

This brought the company’s attention to their Envirowipe, which is already made from natural fibres, and are of course 100% compostable. The biggest issue with this product was that the packaging was plastic, which was completely counter-intuitive to the desired result of a natural product.

EcoTech set their sights on a variety of different options, but the one that resonated the most with the company was a derivative of potato starch: this would allow the product and packaging to be domestically and commercially compostable. From here they switched the ink on the packaging to vegetable-based inks, and replaced the plastic case seal tape on the box with a paper tape that was also 100% compostable.

Going forward, EcoTech aims to make sure that eco-friendly janitorial and hygiene supplies are continuously made available to the consumer, and they will continue to prove that a cleaner, environmentally responsible future is possible without compromise in the way of quality and great pricing.

In an ever-changing industry, EcoTech (Europe) Limited are actively adapting to the new demands of an environmental age. Their approach to this new era has been one of leadership, with products that are not only sufficient to demand, but change the game.
