BRINTONS WINS DESIGNER COLLABORATION OF THE YEAR

Carpet manufacturer Brintons was awarded Designer Collaboration of the Year at the 2018 Wool Carpet & Rug Awards for its Craigend collection with Timorous Beasties.

The award honours the creative partnership between designers and manufacturers. The judging panel described the Craigend collection as “a beautiful product that plays to the strength of both collaborators.”

Judge Melanie Sherwood, Editor of Homes & Antiques magazine, commented: “I adore the richness of colour in these designs – real impactful, wow-factor creations.”

The Craigend collection was launched in May this year and consists of nine designs that are inspired by textures and surfaces found naturally underfoot, all reimagined in the Brintons’ signature 80/20 blend of 80% wool and 20% nylon.

In designing Craigend, Timorous Beasties called upon their fascination with the often-brutal beauty of the natural world, as well as taking aesthetic inspiration from different crafting materials including paint, ink and fabric.

NEW RESEARCH PROJECTS FOR

THE EPLF Members of the European Producers of Laminate Flooring (EPLF) recently held a meeting in Germany to set the course for new research projects.

Under the chairmanship of newly- elected Eberhard Herrmann (Classen) and with topics driven by Jasper de Jaeger of Unilin and Dr Rico Emmler of IHD Dresden, a group of 20 EPLF specialists from six countries met for discussions at the DIN Institute in Berlin. The outcome is an extensive upcoming research programme.

The committee decided that the increasing popularity of moisture- resistant laminate floors for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms has made it necessary to create a system of classification for moisture resistance.

Sponsored by The Campaign for Wool, in association with British Wool, the Wool Carpet & Rug Awards celebrate excellence in wool carpet and rug manufacture. Now in its third year, the event helps to promote the many benefits of wool flooring to a wide and varied audience.

The awards attracted more than one hundred entries across its 12 categories, with the ceremony held at the Harrogate Flooring Show. Brintons was also a finalist in the Commercial Woven Carpet of the Year category, for its renovation of the Victoria Palace Theatre in London.

Due to the wide choice in the degree of gloss for these easy-to-maintain laminate floors, greater technical understanding of how micro-scratches appear and how the polishing effect occurs on matt surfaces is also required, they agreed.

The members of the Technical Committee have agreed to run individual tests and the results from these will be summarised over the coming months.
