10 QUESTIONS WITH…
Each month, we ask a flooring industry professional 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Jason Reid, National Sales Manager, UltraFloor.

What was your first job? A referee for kids' football matches.
How did you get into the industry? After breaking my leg on a holiday with my friends
and as a result deferring university for a year, I started working at Instarmac and have never left. I am relatively new to the flooring industry, but when the opportunity presented itself to run a successful growing brand, I grabbed it with both hands.
What do you think are the positives and negatives of the flooring trade?
I am constantly impressed with the number of people I meet working in the industry who are passionate about what they do.
Negative? Well I suppose like with all trades you find contractors who think it is acceptable to take shortcuts. The majority of floor failures are a result of the floor not being prepared properly.
If you could hire any one person to be part of your team, who would it be
and why? Any of the Dragons from the BBC TV show Dragon's Den, a few doors could be opened with them on board!
What’s the best advice you could give to someone new coming into the industry?
Whatever you are doing, do it with a smile on your face. If you are happy and positive, good things will happen to you.
Fun is at the heart of Instarmac, our ethos is ‘Work Hard, Have Fun, Make a Difference’ and when you work for a great company that rewards you with lots of great benefits including free holidays in Tenerife and Cornwall it certainly puts a smile on your face coming to work each day.
Q6
If you could invent any product what would it be and why?
As I said, the majority of floor failures are a result of the floor not being prepared properly so a levelling compound suitable for all substrates, wet or dry, that needs no prep what so ever and can be covered instantly would be fantastic.
Q7
If you could have a dinner party with any three people, dead or alive, who would
they be and why? I’d invite George Best as the stories he could tell would make for an entertaining evening. Derren Brown - in the hope he could teach me a trick or two! And finally, Pablo Escobar so I could find out how he managed to hide/spend $22billion a year.

What do you think the future holds for flooring design?
I think with the ever increasing attention people are paying to their floors, the choice and range of unique products will continue to grow. I also think that the way in which products are manufactured and their environmental impact will ultimately influence flooring design. Instarmac already offers a range of products which include recycled material and I see us developing more of these products in the future.
Q9
What would you like to see in a future issue of Tomorrow’s Contract Floors?
Selfishly, I would like the focus to be on the importance of subfloor preparation and the impact it can have if it is not done correctly.
Q10
Paul Webb, Commercial Manager, Moduleo UK and Eire asked: If you
were on death row, what would your final three-
course meal be? For my starter I’d have chicken pate followed by scallops. Main course would be fillet steak and chips with a side of chicken tikka vindaloo. Then for dessert, crème brulee and a cheese platter.
