A MARRIAGE MADE IN HEAVEN

When the quirky and opulent wedding venue Charlton Hall wanted to create a truly spectacular bespoke art deco floor, they turned to Karndean Designflooring.

On a secluded 150-acre estate in Northumberland sits Charlton Hall, a speakeasy wedding and private party venue with beautiful picturesque views over the coast.

Looking to create a stunning setting for couples to say “I do”, entrepreneur and owner Richard Shell turned to Karndean Designflooring. He tasked the UK specialist in luxury vinyl flooring with creating an extraordinary bespoke floor design for the ceremony hall, housed within a Georgian barn.

“The unusual art deco floor design is partnered with a romantic floral canopy suspended from the ceiling.”

Opting for Karndean’s Opus Luna and Nero chequerboard design, Richard appointed Northumberland based Total Flooring to supply and install the LVT. The products were hand cut on site by Shaun Baston from Total Flooring, who said: “The project took me a week to complete and involved cutting, re-bevelling and fitting simultaneously, but it’s been worth it to see and hear the reactions of staff and guests.”

The unusual art deco floor design is partnered with a romantic floral canopy suspended from the ceiling, decorative lights and contemporary white acrylic chairs to seat up to 120 guests.

Shaun continued: “Karndean is an ideal product for any commercial floor space especially as there is no limit to the design possibilities, so I would recommend it to anyone. Even if the fitter doesn’t have time to hand cut intricate designs, Karndean offer an in-house laser cutting service for bespoke designs.”

Richard Shell, owner of Charlton Hall, commented: “We wanted to add an element of surprise by choosing a design that guests wouldn’t expect from a traditional building built around the late 18th century. For us it didn’t matter how long it took, because we wanted it to be perfect, and I am thrilled with the result.

“Charlton Hall is a very courageous venue in terms of interior design, so it was important to carry this eccentricity into the standalone ceremony hall. Karndean have an excellent reputation for being very on trend and delivering creative solutions to a client’s brief, so we knew they were the perfect partner to deliver the carefully curated look that we were aiming to achieve.”

Karndean’s Opus Luna design features a clean, smooth stone effect with a subtle mottled pattern for an overall style reminiscent of porcelain. In sharp contrast, Opus Nero offers a statement matt black stone effect for a sophisticated finish.

Paul Barratt, Managing Director of Karndean Designflooring, said: “The ceremony hall is a very important consideration for couples who are choosing their wedding venue, and the bespoke floor design will play a significant role.

“It was essential that

we created a floor that was both luxurious and slightly off the wall. It also had to

be durable and suitable for underfloor heating.”

“It’s a fantastic example of how a floor can become quite a talking point and the special cut floor is so striking, it will really make those wedding photographs stand out for newlyweds.”

Richard added: “When selecting the floor design, it was essential that we created a floor that was both luxurious and slightly off the wall. For functional reasons, it also had to be durable and suitable for underfloor heating at the same time. The quality of Karndean’s products are second to none and the design truly captures our imagination, whilst delivering a standard of luxury that our clients will come to expect from a venue of this calibre.”
