Subfloor preparation products from manufacturer, F. Ball and Co. Ltd. have been used in the refurbishment of luxury office spaces in Manchester and London.
Contractors specified the highest quality products to complete a 720m2
flooring installation at Empress Business
Centre, in Manchester city centre, to the aesthetically pleasing standard required to showcase the building for existing and potential customers.
The team from Goulson Furnishing Fitters, in Stockport, began the installation by removing the existing carpet tiles from all communal areas including stairs, corridors and the main reception area. The suitably dry and clean floor was then prepared with a coat of Stopgap P131 Primer, before a 3mm thickness of F. Ball’s Stopgap Green Bag was applied in the areas that required slight smoothing.

As part of the refurbishment of a 1930s’ office building in East London, F. Ball’s Stopgap 800 Wearcoat, a self-levelling wearing surface, was used to create a high-quality floor surface.
Having removed the original cellular offices and stripped back the existing finishes to create a contemporary industrial feel, the developers wanted to maintain the design theme by installing cementitious wearing surfaces, while providing the option for new occupiers to install a floorcovering if preferred.
Main flooring contractors H.I.S. Contracts specified Stopgap 800 Wearcoat for the project and subcontracted Euro Resin Solutions to undertake the work.
After priming the subfloor with Stopgap P131 General Purpose Primer, Stopgap 800 was pump applied over the entire office floor, covering an area of 1100m2
. Stopgap 800
is a self-levelling commercial and industrial grade flooring compound that is used for upgrading and renovating new and existing internal floors in light to heavy-duty applications, where floorcoverings are not necessarily required to be installed. Stopgap 800 Wearcoat is also low odour and protein-free.
New carpet was then installed using Styccobond F3, a water- based rubber/resin product compatible with nearly 70% of all floorcoverings in the F. Ball Recommended Adhesives Guide. The product offered excellent wet grab and an early build up of strength for the carpet in all areas, including the impressive open-plan reception area.
