SUSTAINABILITY LONGEVITY

It is not unusual to find a 60-year-old Junckers floor in excellent condition – a good quality material can and should last for generations. A Junckers floor can be sanded and refinished up to 10 times, returning it to as-new condition. With 12-year intervals between professional sandings, (typical for sport and commercial flooring) a Junckers floor will last well beyond the gold standard of 60+ years. For the client, a long-lasting floor with low life cycle costs has obvious benefits; and for the contractor, a regular maintenance programme can provide a secure income for many years. Junckers offers customers a 25-year lifetime warranty on the product, installation, and maintenance of the floor, run through the company’s network of Approved Maintenance Contractors. A well-managed maintenance scheme also offers the customer peace of mind and a way to avoid unexpected costs.

THE AIR WE BREATHE

Another core target set out by the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge is user health and wellbeing. Daylighting, overheating, CO2 levels, VOCs and formaldehyde are all taken into consideration as key factors influencing how we live in and use buildings. All Junckers floors hold the Danish Indoor Climate label and have undergone extensive degassing and odour testing to ensure there are no chemical substances in the flooring which adversely affect the air quality in a room.

BEING FLEXIBLE AND USE WITH FF&E

Strong and durable, a solid wood floor offers its owners a flexible and adaptable surface to work with. A floor might have originally been installed to do one job, such as a sports hall floor in a school, but it can easily cope with being turned into an exam or dining hall or used for community events without the need to cover it. Any school building being built or refurbished under the new framework needs to specify and install a timber floor if it is to be used with any fixtures, fittings or equipment to comply. It can be a solid hardwood floor or an engineered floor with a minimum wear layer of 6mm.

BACKING UP OUR CLAIMS

Even though respecting the environment has always been part of Junckers way of working, having the right company policies and practices is not enough. Today, providing independently verified accreditation and certification is essential. We have achieved independent accreditation by a number of international schemes including FSC, PEFC and ISO 14001. We have also had independent product testing carried out for VOCs and our products' effect on indoor environment under CDPH standards and the Danish Indoor Climate scheme. We have completed EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) for our floors. The certificates are an important tool for anyone designing buildings to the high environmental standards required under BREEAM and Passivhaus schemes, for example, and offer reassurance to residential customers.
