RESILIENT FLOORING PIER PERFECT

F. Ball’s Styccobond F49 adhesive creates show-stopper finish for Cromer Pier bar.

Selected for its temperature tolerance and water resistance, F. Ball and Co. Ltd.’s Styccobond F49 Hybrid PS vinyl adhesive has been used to install a vinyl sheet floor finish at the Pavilion Bar on Norfolk’s Cromer Pier, where the subfloor is made up of the pier’s 151-metre-long wooden boardwalk that stretches out over the North Sea.

The Pavilion Bar is situated within the Pavilion Theatre at the end of Cromer Pier, where theatre-goers can enjoy refreshments before a show or during the interval.

Contractors from A W Flooring (Norfolk) Ltd. were hired by North Norfolk District Council to refurbish the bar floor ahead of BBC television programme Antiques Roadshow shooting an episode from the pier, in anticipation of the thousands of visitors the TV show would attract to the area.

Prior to the installation of Altro Wood Safety vinyl sheets, the 120m² bar floor was previously covered with carpet tiles that had become worn over the years. Contractors took up these tiles and installed 6mm Hanson SP101 plywood sheets. These sheets were securely screwed down over the boardwalk subfloor, prior to installing the vinyl sheets.

Unlike other water-based adhesives, Styccobond F49 is resistant to water, making it the ideal choice for an installation such as this

situated directly above the sea, as well as other floors that are subject to damp and humid conditions.

Applied by contractors to the entire area, Styccobond F49 combines temperature tolerance with pressure sensitive qualities and as such, has good initial tack and high bond strength. This allows for vinyl sheet, tiles or planks to be held firmly in place once positioned by the contractor and, when cured, the bond will securely hold vinyl floorcoverings from temperatures as low as -20C up to 60C. This prevents the expanding and contracting of vinyl floorcoverings under extreme temperatures, which can lead to tenting and gapping at the interface of adjacent tiles.

˝Styccobond F49 is resistant to

water, making it the ideal choice for an installation such as this situated directly above the sea.˝

Commenting on the project, A W Flooring (Norfolk) Ltd. director, Andrew Webster, said: “We use F. Ball products most days because they’re solid, reliable, and great to use. Styccobond F44 and F46 are our go-to adhesives, but we used Styccobond F49 on the advice of our F. Ball technical representative for its water- resistant properties, which was perfect for this job. You can always trust in the yellow bucket.”
