It was heartening to see that ‘Freedom Day’ on 19 July wasn’t widely accepted as the free-for-all end of restrictions some of us were concerned it would be. While plenty of people churlishly decided that this signalled a sudden end to the pandemic, the majority of the public didn’t take the Government’s reckless messaging around the day to mean that social distancing had ended and masks were no longer needed.
People instead continue to sensibly practice caution instead of pretending the virus has magically gone away, and continue to wear masks on public transport and in shops, practice good hand hygiene and maintain social distancing when possible.
With the cleaning and hygiene industry working hard to protect people as they return to offices and retail spaces, we’re well on course to relegating COVID-19 from its status as a global pandemic.
In this month’s issue of Tomorrow’s Cleaning, we take a special look at Infection
Control, with James from Citation discussing with us the topic in a post-COVID world, we learn why probiotics are considered the ‘electric car’ of the cleaning world from Synbio Shield, and Northwood detail how they can help promote good hygiene.
In our special Pest Control section, the BPCA swarms us with wasp advice for
cleaning contractors, Julia from Beaver Pest Control explains why high quality pest control is worth the investment, we learn about the benefits of proofing from Jim at Dudley Industries, and Cleankill inform us why prevention is better than the cure.
For our Leisure and Hospitality focus, Jeremy from Essity looks into the safety of pub toilets in the wake of COVID-19, we learn about minimising the environmental impact of summer staycations from Robert Scott, and Chris from GOJO lets us know why customer confidence is going to be the vital ingredient for successful reopening.

Also, in a special feature, I take an in-depth look at The Tokyo Toilet project, a brilliant redevelopment project in the heart of Tokyo’s Shibuya district, aimed at improving public perceptions of public toilets with more than a dozen unique designs.
Thank you very much for reading, please stay safe and enjoy the issue!
