Finding trusted suppliers and sourcing products efficiently

Over the past 18 months, infection control has been at the top of the agenda for every business, regardless of industry. The demand for cleaning and hygiene products, from disinfectants and hand sanitising gels to personal protective equipment (PPE), has been phenomenal – and certainly in the early days of the pandemic, demand outpaced supply.
Despite the industry pulling out all the stops, this left a gap for new businesses to enter the market. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with healthy competition, and after all, the demand was at unprecedented levels. However, this unfortunately led to an influx of unethical, profiteering companies. The UK Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA) even released a statement advising buyers against purchasing from the ‘unscrupulous profiteers capitalising on the unprecedented demand for these products’.
With such an overwhelming selection of products and suppliers, how can buyers ensure they aren’t paying over the odds and avoid purchasing products that may not even be fit for purpose? As we continue to live alongside a highly infectious and serious virus, it has never been more important to ensure the job is done properly. This means using effective solutions, whose antimicrobial efficacy has been proven, providing professional cleaning staff with the correct PPE, and ensuring they follow best practice, which not only results in an excellent clean, but also protects the health and safety of workers.

It’s far easier to verify a trustworthy supplier than a multitude of individual products. Reputable companies will very often be members of key industry organisations. For example, Jangro is proud to be associated with the CHSA,

Cleaning & Support Services Association (CSSA) and the International Sanitary Supply Association (the ISSA). Such accreditations provide third party endorsement and offer independent assurance of a business’ quality, claims, and their health and safety.
For example, members of the CHSA’s Accredited Distributors Scheme sign a declaration to only stock and offer for sale CHSA Accredited products, or products that conform to the same standards as required by the relevant CHSA Manufacturing Standards Accreditation Scheme. This provides customers with the assurance that the products they purchase are fit-for-purpose, meet industry standards, and are reliable both in terms of their high quality and the exact quantity promised on the packaging.
The CSSA has a similar ethos; its members agree to follow a ‘Code of Practice’. This lets customers and prospects know that they are engaging with the right cleaning contractor, which meets its stringent standards.
As restrictions lift completely, there will be even more pressure on the cleaning industry to ensure spaces are clean, hygienic, and healthy. Choosing a responsible supplier helps ease the burden on customers, giving them confidence that they are purchasing quality solutions at competitive prices.
