x WSMA Festival News

Thousands of volunteers work together to make WSMA festivals successful. Teachers, music parents and community members devote countless hours toward the success of student musicians by serving as directors, organizers, office personnel, room monitors, concession workers, results runners, and anything else that might be needed. Leading and organizing the events are the festival managers. Their leadership and dedication are greatly appreciated by colleagues, student participants, adjudicators and the entire WSMA staff.

A panel of Wisconsin composers evaluate original student work who then receive written feedback identifying strengths of the submission as well as suggestions for improvement in future compositions. Evaluations are returned to students within four weeks of their submission.

Students in grades 4–12 may enter in one or more of the follow- ing categories:

Instrumental Solo Instrumental Ensemble Concert Band/Orchestra Instrumental Jazz Piano Solo

Piano Ensemble Vocal Solo

Vocal Ensemble Vocal Jazz Miscellaneous Arrangement

Digital Music Production Rap/Hip-Hop

Please visit the Student Composition Project webpage on the WSMA website for more information, including additional composition resources for both students and teachers.
