WMEA News Randal Swiggum, WMEA President-Elect WMEA/NAfME Membership

Participating and voting as a Wisconsin Music Educators Asso- ciation (WMEA) member requires an annual National Associa- tion for Music Education (NAfME) membership with WMEA selected as your state affiliate.

If this sounds new to you, it is likely you’re not yet a member, which means timely communications are missing from your inbox and physical mailbox. With so many topics and items that impact our jobs as music educators, now is a great time to join! This will ensure you have the most up-to-date information about the advocacy that is occurring on behalf of our profession at the state and federal levels. Now more than ever, having this infor- mation could be a game-changer for your local level advocacy work. Join today at nafme.org/membership.

WMEA Elections

Elections are underway for our regional vice presidents in Re- gion #3 - Northeast and Region #5 - South Central. Nominations were submitted by WMEA members in each region, along with recommendations from your WMEA Executive Board.

2025 Wisconsin State Music Conference

Our 2025 Wisconsin State Music Conference planning is well underway after an exceptional initial online conference planning session in January. This year’s theme, “Building Vibrant Com- munities through Music,” will include sessions and presentations from nearly 100 colleagues, scholars and researchers from across our state and nation.

Based on survey feedback, we will also have new oppor- tunities for shorter pedagogy sessions to support you with tar- geted student needs in your choir or percus- sion, woodwind, brass and strings sections. Save the date, as this will be a conference not to miss: Oct. 29 - Nov. 1, 2025.

Candidates for Northeast are Robert (Bobby) Knox and Danielle Scherer, and candidates for South Central are Carrie Backman and Theresa (Terri) Felton.

All NAfME/WMEA members with a current status as of March 15 will be sent online ballots on April 14, and the election will be open from April 14–28, 2025. WMEA thanks all who submit- ted names for placement on the ballots, and results from the election will be made public on or around May 1.

Seeking Leaders: Open WMEA Council Positions

Each April, WMEA posts descriptions of WMEA council positions with potential or pending vacancies. This year, these positions are to be appointed by the WMEA President for the term of July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027.

You are able to view a full list of both elected and appointed positions at wmeamusic.org/ about/officersboardcouncil.
