WMEA News Continued from page 31

(WMEA provides a ‘script’ for you to follow). You will also work in a small group with other constituents so you aren’t in the meeting alone!

The focus of the meeting will be an “ask” which will be final- ized in mid-January. The “ask” will likely be focused on teacher recruitment and retention, perhaps looking for ways to encourage more potential educators to see the value of teaching as a career, complete their undergraduate work and get into the profession. We want to make sure legislators are aware of the issues sur- rounding teacher retention and recruitment but also provide some concrete steps they could take to make the situation better.

Please consider being part of this important work on behalf of all those involved in music education. More information about the event is here. If you want to register to be part of this year’s “Drive-In Day,” go to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F AIpQLSfIDD7Bclc52JVx6bqJ0RMjQwfWztxJ-u15WwAM- JL1JuYmHUg/viewform

Resources You Can Use

The Advocacy Assistance Team consists of a group of music educators ready to help teachers facing challenging situations. This team will help with topics like staffing cuts, changes to scheduling that might have a negative impact on music classes, budget reductions and more. Teachers looking for help can get quickly connected with experts by simply filling out a request.

Educators in their first few years of teaching might find they could use access to supportive conversations with experienced music teachers. One of WMEA’s newest services to members is the Early Music Career Teacher Collaboration. The goals for this program are to support early career music teachers as they acclimate to new teaching environments and help them build a professional network. By sharing information and resources, both early career teachers and more experienced teachers will all benefit from ideas shared in these unprecedented times. If you would like to connect with this opportunity please go to the link to sign up.

Comprehensive Musicianship Through Performance

Patty Schlafer, CMP Committee Chair

The Wisconsin Comprehensive Musicianship Through Per- formance (CMP) Committee met in early October to finalize plans for their 2023 professional development workshops. The Wisconsin CMP Project is excited to announce the return of in-person professional development for music teachers in Wis- consin and beyond. After these past years of virtual, shortened and even canceled workshops, we have rebooted and reimagined the workshop format for what teachers really need in this new world. Dates and locations are all confirmed quite early this year, hopefully giving teachers ample time to plan to attend.

CMP Winter Workshop: January 27–28, 2023 Wisconsin Center for Music Education, Waunakee, WI

CMP Summer Workshop: July 10–14, 2023 University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Haas Fine Arts Center
