WSMA News x New Account Portal
In an effort to provide more efficient and ef- fective online service, WSMA and WMEA are together transitioning to a new centralized Account Portal that will replace MyCenter and offer direct membership access 24/7 to account information never before available.
The Account Portal, in development since 2019, will offer a variety of timely benefits, especially in today’s fast-paced, online environment:
• View account data for affiliated WSMA member schools through the same portal, such as transactions like outstanding/ paid invoices, program registrations, publication subscriptions, purchases through the online store, and more!
• View committee rosters, upcoming events/activities and shop in the online store.
• Update WMEA/WSMA personal profile, including contact information, member- ship status and communication prefer- ences.
Instructions for accessing the Account Portal were sent via email to member contacts in December. The Account Portal is accessible from the homepages of
wsmamusic.org and
wmeamusic.org. Watch for more information to come as various features of the Account Portal are introduced.
x Middle Level State Honors Music Project
October 30 and 31 marked the culmination of months of musical preparation by the Middle Level State Honors students. Of the nearly 1,100 students that regis- tered to audition, 298 participated in the virtual two-day event. The students who were chosen received their music in September. After two months of individual practice and work with school music teachers and/or private instructors, these students came together to engage in full concert group rehearsals, interact with nationally-recognized composers and work with section coaches specialized in their instrument or voice part. This experience would not be possible without the dedicated volunteer assistance of music teachers from around the state.
The purpose of the Middle Level State Honors Music Project is to:
• Challenge musically accomplished Wisconsin students to share their dedication to a high level of musical performance.
• Provide opportunities for families, schools and communities to share pride in the efforts and accomplishments of their students.
• Offer models of leadership and excellence for music education and music performance.
In addition, the Middle Level State Honors Music Project benefits participat- ing students, schools, school music programs, families and music teachers. Teachers, parents and private studio teachers are encouraged to register their middle level musicians to audition for this rewarding performance opportunity. Online registration opened on December 9 and will close on February 5, 2021. Audition requirements, a project timeline and additional information can be found at
www.wsmamusic.org/ml-honors. Video auditions will be due on Friday, April 16.
Nationally recognized conductors Dr. Arris Golden (band), Dr. Gary Packwood (choir) and Dr. Rebecca MacLeod (orchestra) will be leading the WSMA Middle Level State Honors ensembles for 2021.
