Flow Chemistry Free flow chemistry teaching manual now available for download
A new flow chemistry teaching manual is now available to download free of charge, offering hands-on guidance for the next generation of chemists. Developed by Vapourtec in collaboration with Dr Nicholas Leadbeater and the New Synthetic Methods Group at the University of Connecticut, the 100-page manual provides step-by-step instructions for ten reactions — including two Nobel Prize-winning transformations: a palladium-catalysed cross-coupling and a ruthenium-catalysed alkene metathesis.
“This manual is designed to introduce students to the immense potential of continuous flow synthesis,” said Vapourtec founder and MD Duncan Guthrie. “Each experiment can be run using Vapourtec’s E-Series flow chemistry system, and we wanted to make this resource
Teknomek, the UK’s leading manufacturer of hygienic furniture and equipment, has launched a new range of modular laboratory furniture designed to meet stringent hygiene standards while offering maximum flexibility. Manufactured from mild steel with white powder-coated frames, the collection combines a clean, contemporary aesthetic with durable performance. Every item is made to order, ensuring a tailored solution for each laboratory.
The new furniture range marks a first for Teknomek in its 40-year history, moving beyond its stainless-steel portfolio to offer powder-coated laboratory products. Each piece has been engineered for easy cleaning and accessibility, with open-sided designs that support good air circulation while maintaining structural stability.
The range includes C- and H-frame benches, cupboards, shelving units and island workstations, available in a wide variety of sizes and configurations. Both bench types can be fitted with suspended rolling rails, allowing under-counter cupboards to be added. This design keeps storage raised off the floor, minimising dust build-up and improving access for cleaning. Because cupboards and drawer units slide along the rail, layouts can be quickly reconfigured to meet evolving laboratory needs or shared workstations.
For environments requiring permanent installations, fixed-to-the-wall options are available. However, the majority of benches and cupboards can be repositioned to adapt to changing requirements, with castors available for added mobility.
Durability is further enhanced with Trespa® TopLab® PLUS worktops, which provide superior resistance to chemicals, scratches and impacts. The non-porous, antibacterial surface is well suited to laboratories, research facilities and healthcare environments with demanding cleaning protocols.
Michelle Locke, Product and Marketing Manager at Teknomek, said: “Whilst our stainless-steel furniture is ideal for cleanrooms, there is increasing demand for white powder- coated solutions in laboratories and changing rooms. Every product in this new range is made to order, from benches and sinks to our marble- top balance desk, with customisation available in sizes, colours and finishes. This ensures customers receive furniture that is perfectly matched to their project.”
To support customers, Teknomek has also appointed a laboratory sales specialist, bringing direct laboratory management experience to help design flexible, hygienic, and cost-effective workspaces.

freely available online so it can reach as many future chemists as possible.”
Dr Leadbeater added: “Flow chemistry opens exciting opportunities for both academic and industrial labs. It’s essential that chemists of tomorrow gain hands-on experience with this powerful technique — which is why we developed this practical teaching guide for undergraduate laboratories.”
