SPOTLIGHT FEATURE Sample Preparation & Processing
Rapid, reliable sterility testing
Traditional sterility tests can take up to 14 days - far too long for life-saving drugs and cutting-edge cell and gene therapies, many of which cannot be tested using standard membrane filtration methods.
Even minimal contamination is unacceptable, making fast, sensitive, and reliable sterility testing essential.
Alpha Laboratories now offers RiboNAT™ by FUJIFILM Wako, a rapid sterility solution designed for speed and accuracy.
Using Nucleic Acid Amplification (NAT) technology and targeting ribosomal RNA (rRNA) via RT-rPCR, RiboNAT delivers precise results in just 7 hours. By focusing on rRNA - which is more abundant in microorganisms than genomic DNA - the test achieves high sensitivity (9 CFU/mL) while detecting a broad range of bacteria and fungi. It also reduces false positives from dead cells and residual DNA, thanks to a nucleic acid inactivator and DNase.
With RiboNAT, laboratories can reliably screen samples in a single day, supporting faster
validation and safer delivery of drugs with limited shelf life. The easy-to-use workflow integrates smoothly into existing sterility QC processes, providing a crucial control point without adding complexity.
For labs ready to accelerate sterility testing and streamline their workflow, RiboNAT™ offers a faster, safer, and more consistent solution.

Microwave Digestion
Redefining sample preparation with advanced microwave labstations
Milestone, a global leader in microwave sample preparation, is proud to announce the launch of the ETHOS Microwave Labstation and the ultraWAVE 2 eco.
With ETHOS, Milestone introduces the latest and most advanced evolution of microwave rotor-base digestion technology. Designed to meet the highest standards in laboratory safety, reproducibility, and efficiency, ETHOS goes beyond digestion to become a true microwave labstation, supporting solvent extraction, evaporation, concentration, high- temperature processes, and more.
ETHOS features rugged stainless-steel construction, pressure-responsive door and SafeVIEW camera monitoring. Its high- purity PTFE vessels and reinforced PEEK components ensure maximum safety and chemical compatibility.
With MAIA, Milestone’s AI Agent, users receive instant guidance on methods, maintenance, troubleshooting, and consumable handling, via chat or voice commands.
ETHOS represents the ultimate combination of performance, safety, versatility, and sustainability, empowering laboratories for advance elemental analysis.
ultraWAVE 2 eco is a new Single Reaction Chamber (SRC) microwave digestion system that brings the core advantages of SRC technology to routine and regulated laboratories.
Building on the success of Milestone’s flagship ultraWAVE series, the ultraWAVE 2 eco redefines digestion efficiency and
sustainability. By digesting all samples together in one PTFE-lined stainless-steel chamber under uniform temperature and pressure, the system ensures complete, reproducible digestions across all matrices, from food and environmental samples to pharma, polymers, and more.
By minimising resource use and enabling sustainable lab practices, the ultraWAVE 2 eco exemplifies Milestone’s commitment to Green Digestion. Laboratories can also access and optimise their sustainability using the integrated Green Prep MW Score tool.

Laboratory mixers with versatile mixing assemblies
The L5 Series Laboratory Mixer is suitable for the widest range of applications – mixing, emulsifying, homogenising, disintegrating and dissolving – with an efficiency and flexibility unmatched by other machines. This is achieved through the use of over 40 interchangeable workheads and screens available for the Silverson L5 series, which increases versatility and the number of applications processable in the laboratory.
The L5M-A multipurpose laboratory mixer is supplied with a number of interchangeable workheads as standard, including a General Purpose Disintegrating Head, Square Hole High Shear Screen, Standard Emulsor Screen and Axial Flow Head. Each of these workheads are beneficial in different applications, across different industries. These workheads can be quickly and easily changed. Also available are Slotted Disintegrating Heads, Fine Emulsor Screens and Pump Heads, further increasing versatility in the lab.
For mixing in narrow-necked containers, Silverson offers a range of interchangeable Tubular Mixing Assemblies. These have a capacity of 1ml – 500ml depending on the product viscosity and are compatible with the L5 Series of laboratory mixers.
Other assemblies which can also be used with the L5 Series include the Duplex, Ultramix and In-Line Mixing Assemblies:
The Duplex assembly comprises two workheads facing in opposite directions. The upper head pulls materials down from the surface of the mix, and provides a coarse disintegrating action, while the lower head draws material up from the base of the mixing container, further reducing particle size to accelerate solubilisation or suspension. This

combined use of two workheads makes the Duplex ideal for high viscosity mixes and applications where light or buoyant material (powders, rubbers and polymers, etc.) need to be drawn down from the surface of a mix and rapidly dispersed.
The Ultramix assembly is designed for applications that are beyond the capabilities of a conventional agitator or stirrer but do not necessarily require the intense high shear of a Silverson rotor/stator mixer.
The In-Line assembly fits onto the model L5 Series Laboratory range and converts it into an In-Line mixer/homogeniser. The centrifugal action of the rotor in the high shear rotor/ stator workhead generates a non-positive pumping action which gives a throughput on low viscosity liquids of approximately 20 litres/minute, reducing as the viscosity increases. The In-Line assembly is suitable for use at atmospheric pressure only.
