Sample Preparation & Processing

Tri-coded sample tubes deliver secure, traceable storage

Keeping samples safe, identifi able, and fully traceable is critical in biobanks, compound libraries, and high-density cryogenic storage. The FluidX™ Tri-Coded Sample Tubes from Azenta Life Sciences are engineered to meet these demands, combining robust security with advanced tracking capabilities for modern laboratories.

Pipettes

Hybrid pipette delivers manual precision and fast electronic aliquoting

Unlike internal-thread designs, the externally threaded tubes cannot be overtightened and allow a higher working volume, while ensuring a tight, reliable seal to safeguard sample integrity. Proprietary tri-coding technology provides a permanent link between sample and data: each tube features a laser-etched 2D code on the base, a 1D linear barcode, and a human- readable number on the side. High-contrast codes remain scannable even under frost or

condensation, supporting easy identifi cation without removing tubes from racks.

Designed for high-throughput and automated workfl ows, the tubes are compatible with both semi-automated and fully automated systems, enabling effi cient sample tracking, data sharing, and cross-lab collaboration. Manufactured from USP Class VI virgin polypropylene in a Class 8 cleanroom, every batch is rigorously tested to be free from extractables, leachables, endotoxin, DNA/ RNA, and heavy metals, protecting your valuable samples from contamination.

Broad compatibility ensures seamless integration with Azenta Life Sciences’ automated capping, code reading, and sample management systems - as well as with industry-standard platforms.

Next-generation overhead stirrers

Wiggens has unveiled its next-generation overhead stirrers - the WOHS-10 Pro and WOHS-15 Pro series - designed to meet the demands of today’s laboratories and research institutions worldwide. Compact, robust, and user-friendly, these stirrers combine advanced engineering with a modern, intuitive design.

Integra Biosciences launches the SWITCH hybrid pipette in September 2025 – a breakthrough tool designed to end the compromise between control and speed in liquid handling. With SWITCH, scientists can move effortlessly between manual pipetting and fast electronic repeat dispensing using a single ergonomic device.

Manual pipettes give researchers the fi ne control needed for delicate steps such as mixing or supernatant removal, but can be slow and fatiguing for repetitive workfl ows like aliquoting. Electronic pipettes solve that problem with programmable repeat dispensing, but often at the cost of complex setup and less intuitive use. SWITCH combines the strengths of both, offering the familiar feel of a manual pipette with the speed and effi ciency of an electronic device – without changing established lab practices.

The hybrid pipette is built around a thumb- operated plunger that stays at the same height across all volume settings, eliminating excessive stretching. In repeat dispense mode it lowers further for effortless, button-like operation. This ergonomic design reduces strain while delivering comfort, control and precision. A quick set ring allows one-handed volume adjustments, and an easy-to-read display shows real-time aspiration volumes.

SWITCH uses Integra’s GRIPTIPS® pipette tips

for secure, strain-free tip loading and ejection. It includes USB-C charging – even during use – ensuring all-day performance. The pipette is also compatible with the Flex charging stand, which holds and powers up to six SWITCH pipettes simultaneously, available in both rotary and linear formats to fi t different lab setups.

By blending precision with effi ciency, SWITCH streamlines complex workfl ows, minimises hand strain, and integrates smoothly into existing laboratory routines.

A high-resolution TFT display shows real-time speed, torque, and set values for speed, temperature, and timer, while a rotary control knob with touch keys enables fast, precise adjustments - even during complex or demanding processes. The keyless, hand-locking chuck allows impeller changes in seconds without tools, helping streamline everyday workfl ows.

Stirrers

The powder-coated cast aluminium housing provides exceptional corrosion resistance and effi cient heat dissipation, keeping the stirrer cool and stable during continuous operation. USB and analogue interfaces add fl exibility, supporting integration into automated reaction systems or standalone use.

At the heart of the system, brushless DC (BLDC) motors ensure quiet, stable, and maintenance-free operation, delivering consistent stirring across a wide range of viscosities and extended run times.

A broad selection of PTFE and stainless- steel impellers, available in multiple paddle designs and shaft diameters, rounds out the system, making it adaptable to a wide variety of laboratory applications.
