Refillable gas canisters cut waste and lower carbon footprint Eco

Air Products has unveiled its Experis®

range of refillable gas canisters in the UK and Ireland, providing industrial and safety- critical sectors with a practical, eco-friendly alternative to traditional single-use canisters.

The new refillable canisters are designed to be returned, refilled, and reused, significantly reducing waste and the energy required to recycle aluminium. Available in 58 L and 110 L sizes, Experis®

Eco

canisters are compatible with existing gas detection, emissions testing, and environmental monitoring equipment, offering the same high performance as single-use canisters - but with a smaller environmental footprint.

Craig Hunt, Technology and Marketing Director at Air Products, said: “Refilling aluminium canisters uses far less energy than recycling and helps lower carbon

emissions across the supply chain. Experis® Eco supports our mission to make industrial operations cleaner and more sustainable.”

The return process is simple and safe. Customers use a specially designed keyway tool to depressurise canisters before sending them back via a prepaid courier. Returned canisters are scanned, credited to the customer’s account, then inspected, relabelled, and refilled at Air Products’ Worcester production site - creating a fully circular system.

After the UK and Ireland launch, Experis® Eco canisters will be rolled out in Germany, Spain, and France later this year, with wider European availability expected in 2026.

Recognising that no off-the-shelf system could meet the precise requirements of its latest research, Titan designed bespoke calibration rigs in-house to support next- generation ultra-low flow and clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeters. Existing production rigs - three certified piston provers operating across 2 ml/min to 200 l/min with ±0.05% uncertainty - were heavily used and insufficient for the novel testing parameters required for advanced R&D.

New under-bench fridges and freezers designed for labs and healthcare

Liebherr, specialists in commercial refrigeration, has launched a new range of under-bench fridges and freezers for laboratories, research centres and healthcare providers. The portfolio includes five Performance series models - two suitable for flammable storage - and three Perfection series models, all engineered for reliability, energy efficiency and ease of use.

Designed with professionals in mind, the units feature Liebherr’s SmartLock system to prevent unauthorised access, a Safety Device to stop temperatures dropping below +2°C and corrosion- resistant shelving with secure pull-out stops. An integrated DataLogger records temperature data, alarms and service events for up to five years, ensuring

Refrigerators/Freezers

The new ultra-low flow calibration rig is central to two major innovations. First, an ultrasonic flowmeter capable of measuring flows as low as 0.2 ml/min, roughly ten times lower than Titan’s Atrato®

meter, offering a

antimicrobial easy-turn handles, smooth easy-to-clean interiors, LED lighting, and an intuitive interface all support safe and efficient operation. Freezers boast no-frost technology for ice-free storage, while heat-resistant worktops save valuable bench space.

compliance and full traceability.

Seamless compatibility with Liebherr’s cloud-based SmartMonitoring system allows precise, remote tracking of performance, alarm events and appliance status. Usability has also been prioritised:

The Performance range meets IEC 61010-2-011 standards, while Perfection models also comply with DIN 13277. Backed by a five-year guarantee (with SmartMonitoring) and a 15-year minimum lifecycle, the range underlines Liebherr’s commitment to delivering future-ready, professional refrigeration solutions.

competitive alternative to thermal devices. Second, a clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter designed for disposable medical tubing, targeting applications such as dialysis and bolus drug delivery where accuracy, sterility, and cost-effectiveness are critical.

To achieve these capabilities, Titan developed a state-of-the-art miniature piston prover system featuring dual synchronised stepping motors with rotational encoders for precise tracking. The system incorporates computer-controlled flow ranges, bolus simulation, and extensive data output for in-depth performance analysis. Complex mechanical and hydraulic factors - such as valve synchronisation, linear motion stability, drive stiffness, tubing compliance, and temperature effects - were carefully addressed, alongside safety features including end-of-stroke detection.

Columns for proven polar compound analysis

For over two decades, The Cogent Diamond Hydride™ TYPE-C™ HPLC Columns have been a trusted solution for scientists demanding precision, versatility, and consistency in their separations. These columns are built on a silica surface that ensures precise retention of polar compounds, making them ideal for analysing metabolites, amino acids, highly polar compounds as well as complex polar biological compounds found in plasma, urine, and saliva.

What truly distinguishes Diamond Hydride™ columns is their compatibility with Aqueous Normal Phase (ANP) chromatography, a powerful technique specifically suited for the retention and separation of highly polar compounds.

By bridging the gap between reversed- phase and HILIC methods, ANP enables greater flexibility and efficiency in LCMS workflows—making these columns an ideal choice for metabolomics, pharmaceutical, and bioanalytical research.

Columns

Backed by Microsolv’s renowned technical support and comprehensive resources, method development and troubleshooting are streamlined and efficient.

Whether you’re working with amino acids, organic acids, carbohydrates, or peptides, Diamond Hydride™ TYPE-C™ Columns offer the selectivity, stability, and reliability that experienced chromatographers rely on.
