Laboratory Products 31 High Performance Microplates for Filtration Applications

Porvair Sciences’ range of high-performance microplates is designed to meet a wide array of fi ltration needs. These microplates are optimised to deliver exceptional performance and versatility in various scientifi c research applications, particularly in the removal of particulate matter and debris from liquids. By utilising a fi lter plate, assays can effectively analyse either the fi ltrate or the particulate matter, depending on the specifi c application.

The fi ltration plates offered by Porvair Sciences are available in three well formats: 48-, 96-, and 384-well, providing options that cater to different throughput requirements. A selection of fi ltration materials, including glass fi bre, nylon, PVDF, and polyethylene is available, ensuring compatibility with various fi ltration applications. The well volumes range from 350 µl to 5 ml, accommodating a broad range of sample sizes. Each type of fi lter plate is meticulously engineered to optimise performance in specifi c applications such as cell harvesting, DNA separations, binding studies, plasmid isolation, general fi ltration, and sample clean-up.

A notable feature of these microplates is the presence of an individual drainage spout for each well. This design ensures 100% sample transfer while eliminating the risk of crossover contamination. Manufactured from ultra-pure grade polypropylene or polystyrene, all fi ltration plates effectively minimise the presence of extractables and leachables when used with common solvents, thereby safeguarding the integrity of the fi ltered samples.

Fast and Simple Selection of Whole Tissue Samples from Storage

Affordable and Effi cient Photochemical Synthesis

The Borealis™ from Uniqsis is a revolutionary fl ow photoreactor that brings the benefi ts of photochemistry within the reach of any laboratory, regardless of budget constraints. The Borealis™ sets a new standard for safe and effi cient high-yield photochemical fl ow synthesis.

Safety is a paramount concern, and the Borealis™ is equipped with a safety interlock system to prevent accidental exposure to high-intensity light. The LED lamps, available in a range of fi xed wavelengths (370nm, 410nm, 440nm, 460nm, and 520nm), are powered by a programmable power supply. This power supply automatically detects the wavelength of the Borealis™ LED module and adjusts the output characteristics accordingly. To protect the LEDs from overheating, a temperature sensor and safety cut-out feature are integrated. Additionally, an inert gas purge input is available for low-temperature applications.

Setting up the Borealis™ fl ow photoreactor is easy. Simply insert a coil reactor into the Cold Coil™ reactor module and secure it using the external adjuster. Then, insert the Borealis™ LED lamp unit into the coil reactor and connect it to the programmable power supply. Temperature control of the coil reactor can be achieved by either connecting it to a cold-water supply for reactions close to room temperature or, for optimum precision, to a high-precision thermoregulation system.

The Mohawk 48 tube selector and picker from Ziath is designed to select and pick wide, heavy, or tall tubes, making this new system is perfect for retrieving individual whole tissue samples from storage.

The Mohawk 48 uses forty-eight solenoid pins to enable a specifi c frozen or thawed sample tube to be raised and selected when a 48-position tube rack is presented according to a pick list from Excel or a LIMS system. Alternatively specifi c individual tubes can be manually selected and picked via the user interface. Individual sample tubes can be picked from a single rack, or users can create a picklist to select tubes across multiple racks. Pick lists can be created by connecting the Mohawk to a Ziath whole-rack reader, such as the Mirage. The advantage in that case is that Destination racks of picked tubes can also be verifi ed for accuracy on the same reader.

Proven in installations worldwide, Mohawk tube selection and picking technology avoids the need for slow and costly robotic systems, importing a pick list, selecting and picking larger whole tissue sample tubes in just seconds.

Connecting the Mohawk 48 directly to a 2D-barcode scanner for tube confi rmation provides extra sample tracking and security, Operating in this confi guration it is also possible to generate picklists directly from the tube barcodes. For further traceability, a 1D-scanner for reading the rack barcode is included as standard.
