12 Gas Detection NEW Alphasense sensors enter production in the second half of 2023

Hot off the back of the recent introduction of their 100% Leak Free O2 sensor, Alphasense, the UK-based supplier to the air quality monitoring and safety gas detection sectors, is bringing two new products into production during the second half of 2023. These new product offerings comprise the NEW H-Series format and A+/B+ range of smart sensors.

The recently enhanced O2-A2 and O2-A3 Oxygen sensors, now guaranteed 100% leak free, entered production in April, with many thousands already in active service in instruments. The new O2 sensor design represents a step-change in temperature and humidity resistance, providing customers with a sensor which will not leak, even under the most arduous of applications.

The second new product to hit production for Alphasense in 2023 is the new compact H-Series sensor. Smaller, thinner and lighter than traditional sensor formats, the H-Series is compatible with 1-Series sensors from other manufacturers and is available for 9 target gases including H2 immune CO and dual CO/H2S. The introduction of H-series from Alphasense gives OEMs greater fl exibility in instrument design and increased choice in sensor selection.

The compact format of the H-Series delivers a considerable space saving. For instance, when used within a four-gas confi guration, the H-series presents a 43% space saving vs legacy A-series/4-series formats, equivalent to 13cm3 of volume within the housing. In addition, the use if surface mount spring contacts instead of pins creates fl exibility, reduces the need for sockets on PCBs, saves space, and eliminates a common point of failure in traditional sensors. The H-series is available to pre-order with samples being offered from the end of Q3 and shipping commencing in Q4 of 2023.

Lastly, the new A+ and B+ smart sensors will be available in sample form from Q3 and shipping in bulk from Q4. The A+ and B+ combine Alphasense’s already popular A-Series and B-Series sensors with Integrated Smart Technology (IST), delivering ‘out-of-the- box’ benefi ts and giving OEMS the ability to develop their own custom solutions.

The addition of IST on A+ and B+ provides the sensor with onboard memory which is factory-populated with 30+ sensor-specifi c parameters and provided with additional vacant memory for manufacturer or end-user data. These new smart sensors also features on-board temperature monitoring and a robust surface mount spring

interface. A+ and B+ sensors are shipped pre-loaded with sensor specifi c parameters including build data, customer data, warranty info, serial number, target gas, performance ranges and full factory calibration data.

The introduction of these new products, as well of those scheduled for 2024, strengthen Alphasense’s position in the market and expands its global product offering. Based in Braintree, Essex, Alphasense manufactures and supplies industry-leading, high-quality sensors for many of the world’s leading OEM manufacturers of industrial gas detection equipment, stack gas analysers and environmental monitoring instruments.

email: New, hands-free thermal imaging for fi refi ghter safety applications

For More Info, email: email:

Near Field Communication (NFC) technology enables the camera to connect to the FPS in-mask display, or transfer the UCF FireCore from one helmet to another. This helps emergency personnel to pass on life-saving technology from one task force to the other – even at the scene of an emergency. This is achieved by holding the thermal imaging camera in close proximity to the in-mask display, before mounting on the helmet. Liz Milward, Marketing Manager, Emergency and Rescue Services at Dräger Safety UK, says that the release of the UCF FireCore will speed up search and rescue missions and improve fi refi ghter orientation in the most diffi cult conditions: “With fl ames, smoke and darkness impairing vision in high-risk environments, improving situational awareness and enhancing fi refi ghter orientation is critical if we are to protect the lives of fi refi ghters in the most dangerous environments.

Extended temperature range available for range of highly precise and reliable gas sensors

LogiDataTech GmbH’s MF420-P product range has been using a catalytic sensor (pellistor) to determine the concentration of explosive gases and vapours reliably and accurately in an air mixture for many years. In addition, they can also monitor for hydrogen, methane or LPG, as well as gases from the alcohol family such as methanol, ethanol, propane.

The measuring range of the gases is 0 to 100% LEL. The concentration is output via a 4 to 20 mA interface for further processing. In addition to the previously available temperature range of -10° to +50°C, a temperature range of -30°C - +60°C is now also available. The system is delivered in a robust aluminium housing with IP54 certifi ed protection, which can also be used in dusty or dirty environments.

In combination with LogiDataTech’s limit value detectors (GWZ), reliable gas detection systems for detecting explosive gases and vapours in the ambient air can be set up at low cost. Typical applications for the system are storage rooms with explosive gases and vapours, refrigeration systems or process monitoring.

Dräger has launched the UCF FireCore, a hands-free thermal imaging camera that displays live-action imagery into the Dräger FPS 7000 full face mask. The UCF FireCore gives fi refi ghters continuous vision in the low-visibility, high-risk, and unfamiliar environments that emergencies often present. With IP67 certifi cation, the UCF FireCore is resistant to water and dust, with lithium-ion batteries guaranteeing safety over long durations. The batteries can be charged easily both in the fi re vehicle, and at the fi re station, prior to being deployed.

The camera can be fi tted to any model, shape or size of helmet through a simple bracket, and is fully detachable, allowing fi refi ghters to extend their vision in diffi cult- to-reach areas, and around corners, to enhance situational awareness and spot risks before they present further hazards. When mounted, the viewing angle can be fully adjusted, providing fi refi ghters with the fl exibility to adapt to emergency situations in a matter of seconds.
