ATEX and IECEx approved, inline determination of oil content in refrigerants in real time without sampling
Determining the oil content in the refrigerant circuit often brings challenges for users. Sampling is diffi cult due to the high pressure in the circuit. In addition, the refrigerant evaporates as soon as it is removed from the circuit. In some cases, this is compounded by the fact that fl ammable gases, such as propane (R290), are used as refrigerants. Of course, this goes hand in hand with special requirements for the measuring systems. Particularly in large-volume test stands, which are often located in research and development centres, a special degree of protection is therefore required.
SensoTech has the solution for these cases: LiquiSonic® OCR determines the concentration of the oil directly
in the refrigerant circuit in real time and without sampling - even in potentially explosive areas. This means that users who previously had to resort to other measuring methods due to the increased explosion level can also use the measuring system. The sensor design is Ex-certifi ed (ATEX, IECEx) and complies with industrial standards. The pressure sensor integrated in the system also complies with these regulations (ATEX, IECEx).
LiquiSonic®
OCR is maintenance-free and provides very precise measurement results. This has been convincing customers for years. When monitoring oil in refrigerants, the system achieves an accuracy of ±0.1 wt%, depending on the oil and refrigerant used. Once installed, it provides permanent real-time readings and requires no maintenance.
SensoTech has already measured a variety of oil/refrigerant combinations for customers in its in-house laboratory test stand. For example, mixtures with oils such as ND11 and DAO 190 (CPS). Other combinations can be surveyed at any time in the SensoTech laboratory.
The complete measuring system comes with a process adapter, is plug&play and ready for use immediately after installation. The controller reliably shows the concentration, the prevailing pressure as well as the temperature of the process liquid. It offers the possibility to store additional product data sets (calculation models), which allows a quick reaction to changing refrigerants or oils. Of course, the measured values can be recorded and transferred for further analysis. Due to the robust sensor design, LiquiSonic®

Investment of over $1M to expand global gas monitoring of rental program
Blackline Safety have announced a $1 million investment in the expansion of its product rental program.
With strong demand from customers globally for versatile solutions to accommodate their diverse safety project needs, Blackline Safety launched its rental business in spring 2021 and is gearing up for rapid growth this year.
“Whether the driving factor is a turnaround, special project, outage or repair replacement, our customers have told us they are looking for a fast and fl exible solution to keep workers and contractors safe,” said Sean Stinson, Chief Revenue Offi cer, Blackline Safety. “We are pleased to offer rentals as the most effi cient way for customers to quickly obtain our personal protection wearables and area gas monitoring equipment to protect their people on site or in the fi eld—or to try before they buy.”
As part of the expansion, Blackline Safety has invested in approximately 1,500 pieces of equipment – including its fl eet of cloud-enabled G7 wearable safety devices, EXO portable area gas monitors, docks, cartridges and accessories – for rental. With all equipment manufactured in-house, the company has the fl exibility to increase production as demand grows.
“Our rental business is a great example of how we’ve been able to respond to the needs of the market,” explained Stinson.
Rentals for North American customers are dispatched from the company’s distribution partners or through Blackline Safety’s Calgary and Houston facilities. Work on supporting international rentals is underway starting with distributors in the United Arab Emirates, with a view to establishing a Dubai facility to facilitate rentals. Typical order fulfi lment is same-day, and with Blackline Safety’s drop-and-go deployment and direct to cloud capabilities, customers can get up and running as quickly as the next day.
