Water / Wastewater 9 New Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD) profi ler

Designed with the intention of a seamless workfl ow, the new SWiFT CTD is the next generation of Valeport’s popular SWiFT profi ler range and delivers enhanced accuracy and versatility for those requiring CTD measurements.

The SWiFT CTD profi ler from Valeport provides survey-grade sensor technology coupled with the convenience of Bluetooth connectivity, rechargeable battery and an integral GPS module to geo-locate each profi le.

Using Valeport’s world-leading high accuracy sensor technology to combine sensors for multiple profi les in a single drop, the SWiFT CTD features a new fast response temperature probe and operates down to 500m as standard, delivering directly measured Conductivity, Temperature and Depth.

In addition to the directly measured CTD, computed Salinity, Density and Sound Velocity is calculated using the UNESCO international standard algorithm and the Chen and Millero equation. Data can be quickly and easily downloaded wirelessly, and uses Valeport’s new Ocean software for iOS, Android and PC platforms. Data can be instantly shared in industry standard data formats.

Ease of use is at the heart of the SWiFT range and the new SWiFT CTD not only makes any problematic battery changes a thing of the past and delivers fully automated data transfer with no user input required, it also features Valeport’s signature SWiFT magnetic switch ring. The switch ring is easy to operate even with cold hands, it simply turns through 90 degrees and reassuringly clicks into position. The end cap features user-friendly LED status indications for GPS, battery and communications.

With an operational battery life of up to fi ve days and the convenience of charge via USB, the SWiFT CTD is intended for offshore, coastal, harbour and inland environmental and hydrographic survey use.

“Developed for those who need precise CTD data for scientifi c applications, this is the fi rst time that measured CTD has been available with all the benefi ts of our SWiFT profi ler; ease of use, Bluetooth connectivity, rechargeable battery and GPS. The new SWiFT CTD delivers the highest quality CTD profi les in a compact, robust and portable package.” commented Guy Frankland, Valeport head of marketing.

Constructed from titanium to provide unmatched durability, the CTD sensors are housed in a strong acetal sensor guard. An optional deployment cage is also available to bolt onto the instrument to help get the SWiFT CTD to depth in fast fl owing currents. For More Info, email:

Industrial facilities, all over the world, must comply with stringent environmental regulations for avoiding contamination by harmful chemicals in their wastewater discharge. The installation of precise and reliable monitoring equipment is key to avoiding contaminating the local environment, endangering human health and avoiding expensive and damaging litigation. Chromatotec’s airmoVOC WMS extracts volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from liquid and then analyses them by gas chromatography (GC) enabling the operator to identify the presence and quantity of contaminants such as BTEX and light to semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs).

Chromatotec’s systems integrates automatic water sampling with a fast loop; the sample is taken from just under the water surface to avoid fl oating particles on the surface and sludge at the bottom. The sampling system is deployed near to the water source, the water is pumped to the sampling and fi ltration unit and then on to the analyser withing its protective shelter. This system, which consists of Chromatotec’s highly successful airmoVOC analyser, a hydrogen generator to produce the carrier gas, a zero-air catalyser to remove unwanted particles and an internal calibration system provides unattended, precise and reliable data in real-time. This system has already been hugely successful within a wide range of industries ranging from pharmaceuticals to food and beverage and the drinking water sectors.

Winters Instruments’ WPS Series is a low-pressure differential switch for monitoring and controlling air and non-aggressive gases. Designed to handle pressure, vacuum, and differential pressures, the WPS is ideal for HVAC applications and simple to integrate into BAS systems.

The simple-to-use adjustment knob allows for fi eld changes to be made without the use of a reference pressure gauge. The sensitive silicone diaphragm is able to sense pressure as low as 0.08 inches of water (16 Pa) up to 20 inches of water (4,000 Pa). The compact size, adjustment knob and competitive cost position, make the WPS Series a perfect low-pressure differential pressure switch for all commercial applications.
