, are real all-rounders. More than 120 test methods are available for
continuous monitoring of water quality. This allows you to analyse all important parameters quickly and reliably on the move in every conceivable application, such as wastewater and raw water treatment, drinking water treatment, boiler and cooling water, disinfectant control or swimming pool. This includes chemical oxygen demand (COD), which in wastewater treatment is an important parameter for the cleaning performance of the sewage plant or for the required quantity of disinfectants in drinking water treatment. The MD 640 can also detect the fl uorescent dyes (tracers) PTSA and fl uorescein and thus provide information about leaks in the water circuit or for the dosing of water care products such as corrosion protection.
Depending on the version, the devices store 500 or 1,000 measured values, which can be called up at any time via infrared or with mobile phone, tablet and PC via Bluetooth®
. The photometers work with modern and highly accurate interference fi lters as well as six
individual wavelengths including automatic wavelength selection, long-term stable LEDs, on-screen access and one-time-zero function for zero adjustment. For the reagents, you can choose between tablets, powder or liquid reagents.

New standard addresses PFAS concentrations in water supplies
ASTM International’s water committee (D19) has approved a new standard that will help address global concerns about the concentration of polyfl uoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water supplies.
According to ASTM International member William Lipps, the new standard required testing of nine complex wastewater matrices, each spiked in triplicate at three concentrations spanning the analytical range of the method.
“Very good precision and recovery obtained on all matrices, along with precision and recovery obtained on spiked reagent water, were used to calculate the quality control limits included in the method,” says Lipps. “These limits establish criteria that individual laboratories must meet before running samples and criteria that will be used to demonstrate performance of labs when running samples.”
This effort directly relates to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals #6 on clean water and sanitation, as well as #13 on climate action and #14 on life below water.
Lipps notes the new standard will help to minimize water use in laboratories and help keep water clean by providing new methods for the analysis of trace contaminants in water.
“The smaller volumes required for this test are 25-100 times less volume than a typical EPA method, reducing shipping weight and cooler size, resulting in a smaller carbon footprint,” says Lipps. “The minimal extraction, while using plastics, minimizes their use compared to other PFAS methods; in this method, the sample is extracted in the same vial in which it was sampled.”
Lipps says that all interested parties are invited to join in the interlaboratory study now being planned for the new standard, which will soon be published as D8421.

The MD 600 holds a memory for 1,000 measuring results and has an infrared and IRiM interface, whereas the MD 610 and 640 will hold 500, with Bluetooth and App Aqua LX data interface. The MD 600 and 610 have the capabilities of measuring 114 parameters, whilst the MD 640 measures 118 – including an additional measurement method for PTSA and fl uorescein.

Corrosion Resistant Conductivity Levelogger 5 LTC
The Levelogger 5 LTC continuously measures and logs water level fluctuations, temperature and conductivity. It is simply programmed using Levelogger PC Software to record at intervals as often as 2 seconds. Event-based and customized scheduled samplings are also options.

The Levelogger 5 LTC offers a number of useful features, including an 8-year battery life, memory for 100,000 sets of readings, and 6 pressure ranges. A PFAS-free coating baked on using polymerization technology (inside and out) provides superior corrosion and abrasion resistance.
The 4-electrode platinum conductivity sensor has a wide calibrated conductivity range, with autoranging from 0 to 100,000 µS/cm. For highest accuracy, calibration is from 50 to 80,000 µS/cm. Ideal for providing a general indication of water quality.
